Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) is a viral disease caused by some H5 and H7 subtypes of influenza virus type A in most species of birds, especially poultry. HPAI viruses are among the most challenging viruses that threaten both human and animal health. Consequently, various strategies, such as the use of vaccines have been proposed to control the disease.

There remains a critical need for the precise control of CRISPR (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats)-based technologies. Here, we engineer a set of inducible CRISPR-based tools controllable by focused ultrasound (FUS), which can penetrate deep and induce localized hyperthermia for transgene activation. We demonstrate the capabilities of FUS-inducible CRISPR, CRISPR activation (CRISPRa), and CRISPR epigenetic editor (CRISPRee) in modulating the genome and epigenome.

Animal law has the potential to initiate improvements for animal wellbeing. However, this largely depends on how effectively the law bridges the legal chasm between animal welfare and animal suffering, a chasm the authors refer to as the welfare gap. When the law does not adequately address this gap, where regulation subordinates animal interests to human interests, it results in weak animal protection that does little more than regulate to a standard that avoids a life not worth living.

This study aimed to develop and validate the Scale of Attitudes towards Rodents (SARod) to measure public attitudes towards rodents in a Chilean community context. Utilizing an instrumental design, we gathered data from 497 participants using convenience sampling. The SARod, comprising 22 Likert-scale items, evaluates attitudes across four dimensions: Scientistic, Positivistic, Emotional Negativistic, and Cognitive and Behavioral Negativistic.
