Published: March 2010

The promise, status and challenges of developing fusion power are outlined. The key physics and engineering principles are described and recent progress quantified. As the successful demonstration of 16 MW of fusion in 1997 in the Joint European Torus showed, fusion works. The central issue is therefore to make it work reliably and economically on the scale of a power station. We argue that to meet this challenge in 30 years we must follow the aggressive programme known as the 'Fast Track to Fusion'. This programme is described in some detail.

The Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) is a crucial power semiconductor device, and the integrity of its internal structure directly influences both its electrical performance and long-term reliability. However, the precise semantic segmentation of IGBT ultrasonic tomographic images poses several challenges, primarily due to high-density noise interference and visual distortion caused by target warping. To address these challenges, this paper constructs a dedicated IGBT ultrasonic tomography (IUT) dataset using Scanning Acoustic Microscopy (SAM) and proposes a lightweight Multi-Scale Fusion Network (LMFNet) aimed at improving segmentation accuracy and processing efficiency in ultrasonic images analysis.

Comprehensive Research Facility for Fusion Technology (CRAFT) is a technology development and validation platform for fusion technology in China. Neutral beam injection is one of the most important auxiliary heating and current drive methods in magnetically confined controlled fusion. Consequently, a negative ion based neutral beam injector (NNBI) testing facility with a beam energy of 400 keV is being developed in CRAFT.

Dissimilar laser welding of martensitic AISI 1060 carbon steel and Duplex Stainless Steel 2205 was performed based on an experimental and numerical study. The experiments were then conducted based on central composite design experiments (CCD) and analyzed via the response surface methodology (RSM) by considering the effect of laser welding process parameters (incident laser power, speed of welding, nozzle distance and deviation of laser beam) on the weld joint characterization. The experimental results showed that the laser power had a remarkable effect on the melt pool depth.

Introduction: In recent years, with advancements in wearable devices and biosignal analysis technologies, sports performance analysis has become an increasingly popular research field, particularly due to the growing demand for real-time monitoring of athletes' conditions in sports training and competitive events. Traditional methods of sports performance analysis typically rely on video data or sensor data for motion recognition. However, unimodal data often fails to fully capture the neural state of athletes, leading to limitations in accuracy and real-time performance when dealing with complex movement patterns.

Dust deposition on the surface of photovoltaic (PV) modules will reduce power generation efficiency and field service life. Existing research has deficiencies in terms of the adaptation of influencing factors and deposition types, deposition mechanism, numerical model of dust deposition process and time scale of dust deposition problem research. To address these deficiencies, first, this study applies the association diagram method to systematically identify the relevant factors of dust deposition, establishes an adaptive relationship between influencing factors and dust deposition types, improves the existing deposition mechanism, and proposes dust deposition criteria.
