Objectives: Bacterial metabolites demineralize dental hard tissues, and soluble factors lead to tertiary dentinogenesis in the area of the dentin-pulp complex. However, it is unclear whether the oral bacteria are directly involved in the differentiation of dental pulp cells. In this study, we evaluated the effect of oral bacterial extracts on cellular differentiation in human dental pulp-derived cells (hDPC).
Study Design: The hDPC were obtained from third molar teeth, and the cells were subcultured. The sonicated extracts were obtained from Porphyromonas gingivalis (gram-negative) and Streptococcus mutans (gram-positive). The effect of bacterial extracts on cellular growth and differentiation in hDPC were tested.
Results: Alkaline phosphatase activity and bone sialoprotein (BSP) gene expression were increased in hDPC exposed to low concentrations of both sonicated extracts, whereas the activity was decreased upon exposure to high concentrations of sonicated extracts from P. gingivalis.
Conclusion: This is the first evidence that oral bacteria have a positive effect on cellular differentiation in hPDC.

Purpose: Keratoconus (KC) is characterized by irregular astigmatism along with corneal stromal weakness and is associated with altered immune status. Tissue resident microbiomes are known to influence the immune status in other organs, but such a nexus has not been described in ocular conditions. Therefore, we examined the ocular surface microbiome of patients with KC and correlated it to the immune cell and tear molecular factor profiles.

Objective: Bacterial extracts have been used for many years to prevent airway infections. Recent findings suggest that immunity can be trained by inducing an immunological memory in both the innate and acquired immune response. This real-life observational study investigated the potential of sublingual bacterial immunotherapy in the prevention of ear, nose, and throat infections.

Osteomyelitis has gradually become a catastrophic complication in orthopedic surgery due to the formation of bacterial biofilms on the implant surface and surrounding tissue. The therapeutic challenges of antibiotic resistance and poor postoperative osseointegration provide inspiration for the development of bioactive implants. We have strategically designed bioceramic scaffolds modified with (LR) and bacteriophages (phages) to achieve both antibacterial and osteogenic effects.

Heliotropium indicum is well-known for its diverse medicinal properties, traditionally utilized to treat ailments such as diabetes, obesity, bacterial infections, inflammation, and diarrhea. This study aims to explore the anti-inflammatory effects of the extract using in vitro methods and to assess its drug-likeness potential using docking, PASS and ADME. Fractionations of crude methanol extract (CME) were undertaken in n-hexane (NHF), chloroform (CHF), and ethyl acetate (EAF).
