Background: Robotic-assisted laparoscopic single-site hysterectomy is popular among patients and surgeons due to good cosmetic outcomes and fast recovery. However, questions remain such as loss of triangulation and instrument collision. Our aim is to test the feasibility and safety of a purpose-designed single-site robotic surgical platform mainly in hysterectomies.

Purpose: Preoperative decision making prior to incisional hernia repair brings benefits but also presents challenges. Defect width (DW) is the key index in hernia staging but does not precisely indicate the requirement for component separation (CS). DW as a percentage of transverse abdominal diameter (TAD) determined by CT imaging was investigated for its capacity to indicate the necessity of CS for successful defect closure under physiological tension.

Arteriovenous grafts (AVG) can be the only bailout solution for patients who require kidney replacement therapy but are unsuitable for arteriovenous fistula (AVF) creation. Currently, high-level evidence on the effectiveness and safety of antithrombotic therapy in AVG patients is scarce. Following the PICO (patient; intervention; comparator; outcome) model and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, a data search of the English literature in PubMed, SCOPUS, Central Cochrane was conducted, until March 1st, 2023 (PROSPERO Protocol Number: CRD42023401785).

Importance: Aging is accompanied by immune dysregulation, which has been implicated in Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathogenesis. Individuals who are genetically predisposed to elevated levels of proinflammatory mediators might be at increased risk for AD.

Objective: To investigate whether genetic propensity for higher circulating levels of interleukin 6 (IL-6) is associated with AD risk.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the outcomes of bladder preservation therapy combining maximal TURBT and neoadjuvant chemotherapy in muscle-invasive bladder cancer patients.
  • A total of 110 patients were treated, with 61 achieving noninvasive downstaging, allowing them to preserve their bladders.
  • The findings indicated that bladder preservation therapy had comparable survival rates to radical cystectomy, but more research is necessary to confirm these results due to the retrospective nature of the study.
