We have developed a novel laboratory instrument for studying gas phase, anion-neutral chemistry. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first such apparatus which uses fast merged beams to investigate anion-neutral chemical reactions. As proof-of-principle we have detected the associative detachment reaction H(-)+H-->H(2)+e(-). Here we describe the apparatus in detail and discuss related technical and experimental issues.

The paper partially covered Active Constrained Layer Damping (ACLD) cantilever beams' dynamic modeling, active vibration control, and parameter optimization techniques as the main topic of this research. The dynamic model of the viscoelastic sandwich beam is created by merging the finite element approach with the Golla Hughes McTavish (GHM) model. The governing equation is constructed based on Hamilton's principle.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how early-life risk factors from both host and environment interact with an infant's respiratory system to influence the development of wheezing and asthma over time.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from two large cohorts of healthy infants (BILD and PASTURE) to identify the effects of various factors on wheezing and asthma outcomes, specifically tracking symptom severity scores over the first year of life.
  • - Findings showed a complex dynamic interplay between different risk factors and breathing symptoms, ultimately highlighting the importance of these interactions in predicting respiratory health outcomes in young children.

Merging two molecular beams of ND3 up to the Liouville limit.

In low-energy collisions between two dipolar molecules, the long-range dipole-dipole interaction plays an important role in the scattering dynamics. Merged beam configurations offer the lowest collision energies achievable, but they generally cannot be applied to most dipole-dipole systems as the electrodes used to merge one beam would deflect the other. This paper covers the design and implementation of a merged electrostatic guide whose geometry was numerically optimized for ND3-ND3 and ND3-NH3 collisions.

We present a merged-beams study of reactions between HD^{+} ions, stored in the Cryogenic Storage Ring (CSR), and laser-produced ground-term C atoms. The molecular ions are stored for up to 20 s in the extreme vacuum of the CSR, where they have time to relax radiatively until they reach their vibrational ground state (within 0.5 s of storage) and rotational states with J≤3 (after 5 s).

Article Synopsis
  • Nanolasers using plasmonic crystals have become popular due to their improved light control, but separating their lasing modes for different applications has been a challenge.
  • This research presents a method to spatially separate two lasing modes in a dual-mode plasmonic laser using a specially designed beam-splitter that can achieve a mode separation of approximately 23° (up to 63° with adjustments).
  • The new design not only allows for separate beams and manual beam steering but also enhances output quality, suggesting potential uses in advanced fields like optical communication and quantum optics.
