Article Synopsis
  • Chloral hydrate is a sedative used mainly in children for procedures like dental sedation and can be adapted for different patient needs due to a lack of commercially available age-appropriate forms.
  • Researchers created a customizable oral liquid formulation of chloral hydrate using a suspending vehicle called PCCA SuspendIt, which is free from sugar, dyes, and gluten, to improve dosing accuracy for both pediatric and adult patients.
  • The study aimed to develop and validate a stability-indicating assay using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) to ensure the chemical stability of chloral hydrate at varying concentrations.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are nano-sized vehicles secreted by all live cells to establish communication with adjacent cells. In recent years, mammalian EVs (MEVs) have been widely investigated for their therapeutic implications in human disease conditions. As the understanding of MEV composition and nature is advancing, scientists are constantly exploring alternatives for EV production with similar therapeutic potential.

Metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), formerly referred to as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), is a common liver disease characterized by an abnormal buildup of fat in liver. This study aimed to investigate whether bioactive dipeptides mitigate high-fat and high-fructose corn syrup diet (HFFD)-induced MAFLD in C57BL/6J mice. Sixty male C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into six groups.

Given the variety of preparations and lack of standardization of swallowed topical corticosteroids (STC) for treatment of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), we sought to better understand STC prescribing practices of pediatric gastroenterologists. A 12-question survey was distributed to members of North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disease Special Interest Group and responses were analyzed. Forty-two of 68 physicians responded.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focused on how managing prolactin levels through the drug domperidone affects sow lactation, hormonal balance, and the resulting performance of piglets during specific weeks of nursing.
  • - Primiparous sows were divided into three treatment groups to compare effects: a control group receiving syrup, another group treated during the first week, and a third treated in the third week, with various metrics like litter size, piglet weight, and milk samples observed.
  • - While domperidone successfully increased prolactin levels, it did not significantly change other blood hormone levels, milk composition, or the sows' body weight and feed intake, although there were signs that piglet weights improved in litters
