Covalent tethering of a Ru(II) dye to gallium nitride surfaces has been accomplished as a key step in the development of innovative sensing devices in which the indicator support (semiconductor) plays the role of both support and excitation source. Luminescence emission decays and time-resolved emission spectra confirm the presence of the dye on the semiconductor surfaces, while X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy proves its covalent bonding. The O(2) sensitivity of the new device is comparable to those of other ruthenium-based sensor systems. This achievement paves the way to a new generation of integrable ultracompact microsensors that combine semiconductor emitter-probe assemblies.

Microelectrode- and nanoelectrode-based electrochemistry has become a powerful tool for the in situ monitoring of various biomolecules in vivo. However, two challenges limit the application of micro- and nanoelectrodes: the difficulty of highly sensitive detection of nonelectroactive molecules and the specific detection of target molecules in complex biological environments. Herein, we propose an electrochemical microsensor based on an entropy-driven multipedal DNA walker for the highly sensitive and selective detection of ATP.

We report the results of a zinc oxide (ZnO) low-power microsensor for sub-ppm detection of NO and HS in air at 200 °C. NO emission is predominantly produced by the combustion processes of fossil fuels, while coal-fired power plants are the main emitter of HS. Fossil fuels (oil, natural gas, and coal) combined contained 74% of USA energy production in 2023.

Self-oscillation enables continuous motion by transforming constant external stimuli into mechanical work, eliminating the necessity for supplementary control systems. This holds considerable promise in domains like actuators, wearable devices and biomedicine. In the current study, a novel suspended liquid crystal elastomer (LCEs) ball system consisting of a light-responsive hollow LCE ball and an air blower is constructed.

The development of low-cost tools for rapid soil assessment has become a crucial field due to the increasing demands in food production and carbon storage. However, current methods for soil evaluation are costly and cannot provide enough information about the quality of samples. This work reports for the first time a low-cost 3D printed device that can be used for soil classification as well as the study of biological activity.
