Electroluminescent properties of silicon-rich oxide (SRO) films were studied using metal oxide semiconductor-(MOS)-like devices. Thin SRO films with 4 at.% of silicon excess were deposited by low pressure chemical vapour deposition followed by a thermal annealing at 1100 degrees C. Intense continuous visible and infrared luminescence has been observed when devices are reversely and forwardly bias, respectively. After an electrical stress, the continuous electroluminescence (EL) is quenched but devices show strong field-effect EL with pulsed polarization. A model based on conductive paths--across the SRO film--has been proposed to explain the EL behaviour in these devices.

Hematite tailings to high-purity silica: Mechanistic studies and life cycle assessment analysis.

Chemosphere

October 2024

School of Metallurgical and Ecological Engineering, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Beijing, 100083, China. Electronic address:

This study aimed to recover high-purity silica from hematite tailings (HTs) using superconducting high-gradient magnetic separation (S-HGMS) technology. This process involved converting silica into a silicone-rich concentrate and subsequently employing a fluorine-free mixed acid to leach the silicon-rich concentrate to remove impurities and achieve refinement and purification. The optimization of the S-HGMS process was conducted using the "Box-Behnken Design" method, resulting in the following optimal conditions: a pulp concentration of 50 g/L, a magnetic velocity ratio of 0.

Stress-induced intestinal epithelial injury (IEI) and a delay in repair in infancy are predisposing factors for refractory gut diseases in adulthood, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Hence, it is necessary to develop appropriate mitigation methods for mammals when experiencing early-life stress (ELS). Weaning, as we all know, is a vital procedure that all mammalian newborns, including humans, must go through.

A comprehensive calibration of integrated magnetron sputtering and plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition for rare-earth doped thin films.

Department of Engineering Physics and Centre for Emerging Device Technologies, McMaster University, Hamilton, ON L8S 4L7 Canada.

Unlabelled: A new integrated deposition system taking advantage of magnetron sputtering and electron cyclotron-plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition (IMS ECR-PECVD) is presented that mitigates the drawbacks of each fabrication system. This tailor-made system provides users with highly homogeneous and pure thin films with less undesired hydrogen and well-controlled rare-earth concentration compared to existing methods of rare-earth doping, such as metalorganic powders, sputtering, and ion implantation. We established the first comprehensive report on the deposition parameters of argon flow and sputtering power to achieve desired rare-earth concentrations in a wide composition range of terbium (Tb) doped-silicon oxide (Tb:SiO) matrices including silicon-rich ( < 2), oxygen-rich ( > 2), and stoichiometric silicon oxide ( = 2).

Oxides of silicon (Si), manganese (Mn), and zinc (Zn) have been used as soil amendments to reduce As mobility and uptake in paddy soil systems. However, these amendments are hypothesized to be affected differently depending on the soil pH and their effect on As speciation in rice paddy systems is not fully understood. Herein, we used a microcosm experiment to investigate the effects of natural Si-rich fly ash and synthetic Mn and Zn oxides on the temporal development of porewater chemistry, including aqueous As speciation (As(III), As(V), MMA, DMA, and DMMTA) and solid-phase As solubility, in a naturally calcareous soil with or without soil acidification (with sulfuric acid) during 28 days of flooding and subsequent 14 days of drainage.

Inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have gained much attention due to their low hysteresis effect, easy fabrication, and good stability. In this research, an inverted perovskite solar cell ITO/PEDOT:PSS/CHNHPbI/PCBM/Ag structure was simulated and optimized using SCAPS-1D version 3.3.
