Bromeliads are tropical plants that are native to the Americas with a wide distribution in the rain forests, deserts and coastal areas. They are mostly epiphytes and terrestrial, diverse and important from the ecological point of view, they are found in microhabitats in strong interactions with fauna. Most of the ecosystems where they naturally occur are now endangered. Bromeliads are also one of the bases of the ornamental industry worldwide, being commercialized according to the features and colour of the foliage and flowers. This industry relies also on breeding programmes generating new hybrid bromeliads with improved bloom and foliage. Thus, advanced propagation systems based on micropropagation are valuable tools for both bromeliad germplasm conservation and for the mass clonal propagation of a selected genotype. In this chapter, a series of in vitro regenerative protocols for bromeliad mass propagation are described in detail. Emphasis is placed on the Brazilian native species, mainly those from the Atlantic Forest biome. The morphogenetic pathway based on nodule cluster culture is stressed, as (a) it seems to be recurrent in bromeliads, (b) it results in high regenerative rates, and (c) it is easy to handle. Protocols based on somatic embryogenesis and encapsulated units using hydrogel are presented. Finally, the use of temporary immersion systems (TIS) for mass propagation is described in detail for two bromeliads: Aechmea fasciata, and Vriesea brusquensis.

Brodalumab, a humanized monoclonal antibody that targets the interleukin-17 receptor A, is primarily used to manage moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis. Although it has demonstrated favorable efficacy and safety in clinical trials, the strict inclusion and exclusion criteria may not fully reflect its safety profile in real-world settings. As its use becomes more widespread in clinical practice, understanding its safety in real-world applications is crucial.

Myeloid malignancies are heterogenous disorders characterized by distinct molecular drivers but share convergence of oncogenic signaling pathways and propagation by ripe pro-inflammatory niches. Here, we establish a comprehensive transcriptional atlas across the spectrum of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) and secondary acute myeloid leukemia (sAML) through RNA-sequencing of 158 primary samples encompassing CD34+ hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells and CD14+ monocytes. Supported by mass cytometry (CyTOF) profiling, we reveal aberrant networks of PI3K/AKT/mTOR signalling and NFκB-mediated hyper-inflammation.

Based on the symmetric initiation mechanism of double-wing cracks in coal rock mass induced by high-pressure electro-recoil water pressure, fracturing experiments have been performed on coal rock mass under different water pressures and discharge conditions using high-voltage electric pulse hydraulic fracturing devices. Combined with CT scans, the crack spatial distribution inside the post-break coal rock mass was analyzed and found that the edge of the water injection hole is prone to produce double-wing cracks along the drilling hole diameter. ABAQUS is used to verify the physical test and extend the test conditions, the geometric parameter change, morphological expansion rule and crack initiation mechanism of double-wing crack in coal rock mass under different discharge conditions and ground stress conditions are studied.

The mechanical properties of multi-lithologic reservoir rock masses are complex, and the failure mechanism is not clear. This research belongs to the field of oil and gas exploration and development. Brazilian splitting, and digital image correlation (DIC) tests were performed to study the mechanical properties and failure mechanism of assemblages containing sandstone, shale, and limestone.

In this paper, we demonstrate that torsional surface elastic waves can propagate along the curved surface of a metamaterial elastic rod (cylinder) embedded in a conventional elastic medium. The crucial parameter of the metamaterial rod is its elastic compliance s44(1)ω, which varies as a function of frequency ω analogously to the dielectric function εω in Drude's model of metals. As a consequence, the elastic compliance s44(1)ω can take negative values s44(1)ω<0 as a function of frequency ω.
