[Significance of patient education and rehabilitation for an epilepsy patient].

Duodecim

Published: March 2010

In patient education, the therapy of an epilepsy patient is planned in collaboration with the patient. Treatment results will improve, when drug therapy and the effects of epilepsy on everyday life are individually assessed together with the patient. Epilepsy information and support provided on a primary information day will help to orient to an altered life situation. Of the most important forms of rehabilitation, adaptation training promotes the facilities of an epilepsy patient and his/her family to function in the environment as fully as possible, whereas vocational rehabilitation will provide support for those having to change occupation or under threat of incapacity for work on account of illness.
