Published: March 2010

Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging is generally considered a safe procedure. Contraindications include the presence of foreign objects in or on the body, which may be subject to electromagnetic fields associated with the MR system. Most of these objects are well known and are routinely screened for prior to the procedure. The authors report an unusual adverse event that appears to have been caused by a unique combination of factors involving an identification bracelet, an item not previously known to present any risks. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first report in the literature of a severe electrical thermal burn that required surgical intervention. Identification bracelets may need to be removed or padded to prevent direct contact with the patient's skin during all MR imaging examinations for patients unable to communicate, such as those requiring sedation or general anesthesia. High photothermal conversion efficiency of RF sputtered TiO Magneli phase thin films and its linear correlation with light absorption capacity.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Centre Énergie, Matériaux Télécommunications, Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique, 1650, Blvd, Lionel-Boulet, Varennes, QC, J3X-1P7, Canada.

RF-sputtering is used to deposit TiO-Magneli-phase films onto various substrates at deposition temperatures (T) ranging from 25 to 650 °C. Not only the structural, but also electrical conductivity, optical absorbance and photothermal properties of the TiO films are shown to change significantly with T. A T of 500 °C is pointed out as the optimal temperature that yields highly-crystalized pure-TiO-Magneli phase with a densely-packed morphology and a conductivity as high as 740 S/cm.

Topological semimetals have recently garnered widespread interest in the quantum materials research community due to their symmetry-protected surface states with dissipationless transport which have potential applications in next-generation low-power electronic devices. One such material, [Formula: see text], exhibits Dirac nodal arcs and although the topological properties of single crystals have been investigated, there have been no reports in crystalline thin film geometry. We examined the growth of [Formula: see text] heterostructures on a range of single crystals by optimizing the electron beam evaporation of Pt and Sn and studied the effect of vacuum thermal annealing on phase and crystallinity.

A three-dimensional numerical model of the vacuum sintering furnace was established, combined with the custom program of temperature-voltage feedback regulation. Through simulationand experimental validation, the heating and holding stage as well as the thermal hysteresis phenomenon of the furnace were analyzed, a dimensionless quantity of hysteresis temperature difference was proposed and calculated, the distribution of the electric field and temperature uniformity of the furnace were discussed in detail, while the structural improvement approach was proposed based on simulation. The results show that: during the heating process, the maximum of thermal hysteresis temperature difference between the graphite cylinder and the heating tube is 0.

Due to their outstanding electrical and thermal properties, graphene and related materials have been proposed as ideal candidates for the development of lightweight systems for thermoelectric applications. Recently, the nanolaminate architecture that entails alternation of continuous graphene monolayers and ultrathin polymer films has been proposed as an efficient route for the development of composites with impressive physicochemical properties. In this work, we present a novel layer-by-layer approach for the fabrication of highly ordered, flexible, heat-resistant, and electrically conductive freestanding graphene/polymer nanolaminates through alternating Marangoni-driven self-assembly of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and poly(ether imide) (PEI) films.

High-Performance Circular Polarization Multiple-Resonance TADF Molecules with Enhanced Long-Range Charge Transfer Based on Chiral Paracyclophane.

J Phys Chem Lett

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Organic Electronics and Information Displays, Institute of Advanced Materials (IAM), Nanjing University of Posts & Telecommunications, 9 Wenyuan Road, Nanjing 210023, P. R. China.

Circularly polarized multiple-resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (CP-MR-TADF) materials have received widespread attention in recent years, but it remains a formidable challenge to design high-performance CP-MR-TADF emitters concurrently exhibiting high quantum efficiency, narrowband emission, and high dissymmetry factor (). Here, we perform an in-depth theoretical investigation on the CP-MR-TADF materials based on [2.2] paracyclophane (pCp) derivatives.
