Globally, many complex issues, like the ageing population and health inequalities, require attention. People are experimenting to combat these issues in their local contexts through bigger or smaller networks; however, much of the knowledge about these initiatives remains localised and elitist and omits the voices and perspectives of citizens. This article identifies the characteristics of a more horizontal, emergent and plural epistemology to mobilize knowledge.

Glaucoma poses a growing health challenge projected to escalate in the coming decades. However, current automated diagnostic approaches on Glaucoma diagnosis solely rely on black-box deep learning models, lacking explainability and trustworthiness. To address the issue, this study uses optical coherence tomography (OCT) images to develop an explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) tool for diagnosing and staging glaucoma, with a focus on its clinical applicability.

Background The high prevalence of non-consensual sex, including physical force, verbal threats, intimidation, and/or verbal coercion and rape among university students, has prompted urgent calls for action from governments, statutory, and university bodies. This research aims to identify key factors students see as contributing to non-consensual sex with a view to developing effective strategies to address these issues. Methods An online cross-sectional survey was administered to 4291 university students attending universities in south-east Queensland, Australia.

Urban water utilities are significant energy users and also key actors in decarbonisation. However, the integrated perspective of urban water supply and wastewater system emissions, the relevant driving forces, and the boundaries of inclusions or exclusions, are rarely discussed. This is due to widely disaggregated data, and complex issues regarding the boundary of the system being investigated.

This research introduces an innovative approach to optimal control for a class of linear systems with input saturation. It leverages the synergy of Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy models and reinforcement learning (RL) techniques. To enhance interpretability and analytical accessibility, our approach applies T-S models to approximate the value function and generate optimal control laws while incorporating prior knowledge.
