Therapeutic drug management of patients receiving mycophenolic mofetil or mycophenolate sodium using mycophenolic acid (MPA) concentrations is controversial. Considered to be less toxic compared to many of the other drugs used in immunosuppression regimens, MPA is not tolerated by all patients. For these patients, monitoring is useful in achieving desired therapeutic targets, reducing adverse effects, and individualizing dosing. We describe an LC-MS-MS that permits the measurement of MPA and 7-O-glucuronide mycophenolic acid (MPAG) in serum or plasma.

Nonketotic hyperglycinemia (NKH), also known as glycine encephalopathy, is a rare inherited neurometabolic disorder caused by a deficiency in the glycine cleavage enzyme system (GCS), leading to the pathological accumulation of glycine in blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). This case report details a neonate presenting with central apnea, profound hypotonia, and refractory seizures, alongside prenatal findings of polyhydramnios and hiccup-like fetal movements, all strongly suggestive of severe NKH. Diagnostic evaluation confirmed markedly elevated glycine levels in serum and CSF, with a CSF-to-plasma glycine ratio exceeding 0.

Objective: To investigate the ability of the estimated plasma gene-expression levels of microRNA (miR)-21 and 126 to define patients suspected to have hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) among patients with complicated hepatitis-C virus (HCV) infection.
Methods: Patients with uncomplicated (U-HCV) or complicated HCV underwent clinical and ultrasonographic (US) evaluations and assessment for the computerized hepatorenal index, hepatic steatosis index and fibrosis indices. Blood samples were obtained for estimation of serum levels of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and plasma expression levels of miR-21 and miR-126 using the quantitative reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR).

Kisspeptin (KISS1) and its cognate receptor (KISS1R) are implicated in the progression of various cancers. A gallium-68 labelled kisspeptin-10 (KP10), the minimal biologically active structure, has potential as a pan-tumour radiopharmaceutical for the detection of cancers. Furthermore, a lutetium-177 labelled KP10 could find therapeutic application in treating oncological diseases.

Aortic stenosis (AS) is a leading cause of surgical intervention in adults with acquired heart disease, driven by an aging population and advancements in diagnostic and treatment approaches. This study aimed to investigate levels of macroelements (Ca, K, Na, Mg, and P) in aortic valve tissues, serum, and epicardial fat in patients undergoing aortic valve replacement due to degenerative disease. Elemental composition was determined using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an acute febrile illness caused by the SFTS virus (SFTSV). We conducted this study to propose a scientific evidence-based treatment that can improve prognosis through changes in viral load and inflammatory cytokines according to the specific treatment of SFTS patients. This prospective and observational study was conducted at 14 tertiary referral hospitals, which are located in SFTS endemic areas in Korea, from 1 May 2018 to 31 October 2020.
