Methadone is a synthetic opioid used to relieve pain, treat opioid withdrawal, and wean heroin addicts. Measurement of methadone and its major metabolite EDDP in urine is useful for assessing compliance with addiction rehabilitation and pain management programs. This method quantitatively measures methadone and its metabolite EDDP in urine. Methadone and EDDP are recovered from urine by solid phase extraction at pH 6.0. Analysis is performed by gas chromatography with mass spectrometry detection, using selective ion monitoring.

Crystals in urinary sediment are commonly recognized structures, typically identified by a combination of crystal morphology and urine pH. In this paper, we present the first reported case of EDDP (2-ethylidene-1,5-dimethyl-3,3-diphenylpyrrolidene) crystals, the primary metabolite of methadone, in a 67-year-old male with hepatorenal syndrome. Routine urinalysis revealed numerous needle-shaped crystals, which prompted further investigation.

Hair analysis for drugs has become extensively used for forensic investigation in recent years. To best interpret hair drug content in post-mortem conditions, the extent of external contamination by biological fluids, such as blood, must be taken into account to avoid false positive results. The present study evaluated opiates and opioids incorporation into hair from blood containing different concentrations of morphine (MOR), 6-mono-acetyl morphine (6-AM), codeine (COD), dihydrocodeine (DHC), tramadol (TRA), oxycodone (OXY), methadone (MET), 2-ethylidene-1,5-dimethyl-3,3- diphenyl pyrrolidine (EDDP), buprenorphine (BUP) and norbuprenorphine (NBUP).

Due to a lack of water resources, people are starting to use treated wastewater to irrigate crops and vegetables. However, the risk of micropollutant exposure from vegetables cultivated with treated wastewater has been largely underestimated. To elucidate this underestimation, a hydroponic system for lettuce cultivation using a nutrient solution spiked with three pharmaceuticals with different log K values (acetaminophen (0.

The increased use of drugs of abuse urges forensic toxicologists to create quick, simple, minimally invasive sampling techniques for biological fluids combined with analytical methods assuring accurate results. To this purpose, a method was developed aimed at quantifying 18 drugs of abuse and metabolites in DBS. Validation of the method was conducted by spiking blank whole blood with the analytes on Capitainer® B cards.

Aims: Methadone maintenance therapy (MMT) exhibits significant variability in pharmacokinetics and clinical response, partly due to genetic variations. However, data from sub-Saharan African populations are lacking. We examined plasma methadone variability and pharmacogenetic influences among opioid-addicted Tanzanian patients.
