Descriptions of one hundred new species of Hesperiidae.

A century and a half since the time of Hewitson, we are experiencing a renaissance in species discovery fueled by whole genome sequencing. A large-scale genomic analysis of Hesperiidae Latreille, 1809 (Lepidoptera), including primary type specimens, reveals a deluge of species new to science. Comparing specimens curated in MfN as primary types of Hesperiidae names proposed by Carl Plötz with the original descriptions and unpublished drawings reveals a number of inconsistencies that we address. Lectotypes are designated for Butler, 1877, Plötz, 1881, and Plötz, 1884. Neotypes are designated for Plötz, 1882 and Plötz, 1882.

Genomic analysis of [Fabricius], 1807 (Lepidoptera: Riodinidae Grote, 1895) reveals species richness higher than anticipated. Terrestrial geothermal springs, reminiscent of early Earth conditions, host diverse and abundant populations of Archaea. In this study, we reconstructed 2,949 metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) from 152 metagenomes collected over six years from 48 geothermal springs in Tengchong, China. Among these MAGs, 1,431 (49%) were classified as high-quality, while 1,518 (51%) were considered as medium-quality.
