Background: The posterior subthalamic area (PSA), including the zona incerta and prelemniscal radiation (Raprl), has recently been presented in number of publications as a promising target for deep brain stimulation (DBS) in the treatment of various movement disorders. In order to evaluate the safety of the procedure, we analyzed our initial 40 patients for complications and side effects.

Methods: 40 patients treated with PSA DBS for Parkinson's disease, essential tremor and other forms of tremor were included.

Results: The most severe complication was 1 transient mild hemiparesis and 1 infection. Minor complications and side effects were relatively frequent, including mild transient dysphasia in 22.5% of the patients.

Conclusions: Few serious complications were encountered, and we consider the PSA to be a safe target for DBS.

Background: Postoperative sore throat (POST) is a significant adverse effect after endotracheal intubation, especially with double-lumen endotracheal tubes (DLTs). Ultrasound-guided internal branch of the superior laryngeal nerve block (US-guided iSLNB) presents a potential intervention for POST. In this first randomized controlled trial to date, we aimed to investigate the effects of US-guided iSLNB, with or without perineural dexmedetomidine, on the incidence and severity of POST following DLTs.

Choledochal cysts (CCs) are rare cystic dilations of the intrahepatic and/or extrahepatic bile ducts. Malignancies arising during follow-up after excision of CCs have been reported in both children and adults, with no typical time frame for malignancy development. We present a case of a patient diagnosed with CCs 36 years ago, who underwent resection and subsequently developed cancer.

Unlabelled: Denosumab,a monoclonal IgG2 antibody directed against RANK-L,is used as a neoadjuvant therapy for inoperable or metastatic giant cell tumor of bone. Many side effects like as hypocalcemia during treatment and rarely severe hypercalcemia especially in children after discontinuation of denosumab occurred. The unpredictable onset and recurrent episodes of severe hypercalcemia increase the duration of hospitalization and the risk of complications.

The safety of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal remedies, particularly when used with modern medications or in non-traditional dosages, requires careful consideration. We present a case of a 62-year-old male with pre-existing cardiovascular risk factors who developed tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy (TIC) potentially linked to prolonged use of the TCM supplement "Tan Ke Jing." The supplement contains licorice root, caffeine, and apricot kernel, which have known cardiovascular effects.

Clinical Skills Laboratories, Trinity Center for Health Sciences, Tallaght University Hospital, Dublin, D24 NR0A, Ireland.

Background: Acute chest syndrome (ACS) is a life-threatening complication of sickle cell disease (SCD). ACS can be precipitated by surgery. This review studies the clinical profiles of ACS following abdominal surgeries to identify risk factors and the impact of different interventions.
