A novel system to carry and protect epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), an antioxidant from the green tea, is reported. The system consists of maltodextrin and gum arabic nanoparticles coated with egg-yolk l-alpha-phosphatidylcholine (Egg-PC)/stearylamine (SA) bilayers. In this study, the polysaccharide core was produced by homogenization followed by spray-drying. The lipid coating was performed by the lipid film hydration method. The polysaccharide core revealed negative zeta potential, which changed to opposite signs after lipid coating. The presence of lipid layers was evidenced by cryogenic-transmission (cryo-TEM) and scanning (cryo-SEM) electron microscopy studies. An increase in size was observed after lipid coating as determined by dynamic light scattering (DLS). Atomic force microscopy (AFM) demonstrated that the polysaccharide core provides high resistance to mechanical strength. The lipid/particle assemblies show high retention efficiency of EGCG at physiological pH, opening the possibility of their use for delivery and controlled release of tea catechins.

Extracellular DNA (eDNA) is one of the core components of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in biofilms and provides attachment sites for microbes and other ECM components. However, little is known about the functions and underlying mechanisms of eDNA in the cariogenicity of dental plaque biofilms. A recent study demonstrated that conformational diversity of eDNA exists in biofilms, and the transition of eDNA from right-handed (B-DNA) to left-handed (Z-DNA) is associated with the structural stability and pathogenicity of biofilms.

The tetrahydroisoquinoline skeleton is a pharmacologically significant core structure containing chiral centers, making enantiomeric separation crucial due to the potentially distinct biological effects of each enantiomer. In this study, laudanosine (-methyl-tetrahydropapaverine) and its three derivatives (6'-bromo-laudanosine, norlaudanosine, and -propyl-norlaudanosine) were synthesized and used as model compounds to investigate chiral recognition mechanisms. Screening over twenty cyclodextrins (CyDs) as chiral selectors in capillary electrophoresis (CE), we found anionic CyDs to be the most effective, with sulfated-γ-CyD (S-γ-CyD) achieving a maximum of 10.

Inspired by sweeping robots, a magnesium@polylactic acid-glycolic acid copolymer@polyethylenimine (Mg@PLGA@PEI) microswimmer capable of cleaning off deleterious disease triggers along its path of progress is designed. Mg@PLGA@PEI is successfully synthesized by adopting a core-shell structure with a small opening which allows for Mg-water reaction.
