We present a partial ion yield experiment on freon 13, CF(3)Cl, excited in the vicinity of the C 1s and Cl 2p ionization thresholds. We have collected a large amount of cationic fragments and a few anionic fragments at both edges. We have observed a strong intensity dependence of Rydberg transitions with ion fragment size for the CF(n)Cl(+) and CF(n)(+)/F(+) (n=0-3) series at both the Cl 2p and C 1s ionization edges. Selectivity in the fragmentation processes involving the C-Cl and C-F bonds are highlighted by the intensities of the C 1s to lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) and LUMO+1 transitions measured on the CF(n)Cl(+) and CF(n)(+) yields. Equally, by comparison with their cation counterpart, we discuss possible bond-length dependence for the anion formation at the carbon 1s edge.

The efficiency of ultrafiltration (UF) of acidified skim milk (SM) is impaired by protein aggregation and mineral scaling. The aim of this study is to assess the potential of acidification by electrodialysis with bipolar membranes (EDBM), in comparison with citric acid (CA), prior to the UF process on filtration performance, fouling and composition of the protein concentrates. Electro-acidification, facilitated by a water-splitting reaction, decreased the pH of milk to ∼ 5.

Purpose: To evaluate the effects of various beverages on surface roughness and microhardness of PEEK and PEKK polymers.
Methods: Rectangular-shaped PEEK and PEKK polymers were fabricated and examined in the study. The specimens were immersed for 28 days at 37°C in red wine, coffee, and distilled water.

In order to characterize the volatile chemical components of processed by different Traditional Chinese Medicine Processing methods and establish fingerprint profiles, headspace-gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (HS-GC-IMS) technology was employed to detect, identify, and analyze processed by five different methods. Fingerprint profiles of volatile chemical components of processed by different methods were established; a total of 85 different volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were detected in the experiment, including esters, alcohols, ketones, aldehydes, terpenes, olefinic compounds, nitrogen compounds, lactones, pyrazines, sulfur compounds, thiophenes, acid, and thiazoles. Principal component analysis (PCA), Orthogonal Partial Least Squares Discriminant Analysis (OPLS-DA), and Pearson correlation analysis methods were used to cluster and analyze the detected chemical substances and their contents.

Few studies are concerned with the effect of the conjugat protein on the bioactivities of the abalone gonad polysaccharide (AGP). In this study, a series of treatments, including raw material (female and male) defatting, extraction temperature (25-121 °C), proteolysis, ultrafiltration, and ethanol precipitation, was conducted to investigate the role of the conjugate protein on AGP anticoagulant activity. All AGP extracts significantly prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) and thrombin time (TT).

Scorpion is a commonly used drug in traditional Chinese medicine for treating epilepsy, although the exact mechanisms are not yet fully understood. This study aimed to compare the treatment effects of Scorpion water extract (SWE) and Scorpion ethanol extract (SEE) on mice with pentetrazole-induced epilepsy and investigate the possible mechanisms through metabolomics methods. A pentetrazole-induced epileptic mice model was used to assess the corrective effects of SWE and SEE.
