Phosphor converted LEDs with omni-directional-reflector coating.

A packaging scheme utilizing omni-directional reflective (ODR) optical coating is described to enhance the light extraction of near UV excited, phosphor-converted LEDs. A simple 1D model was developed to analyze the spectra of the extracted light measured with an integration-sphere as a function of phosphor layer concentration and thickness. Quantitative determination of the absorption coefficients at the pump and fluorescent light wavelength along with the conversion coefficient of phosphors were obtained. The reflection of the ODR film and the back reflector are also characterized. These parameters are then used for efficiency optimization of the present packaging scheme. A maximum enhancement of 40% can be expected with the materials and the configuration used in the present work.

Fresh-cut cantaloupes are highly susceptible to contamination by foodborne pathogens and spoilage-causing microorganisms. This study evaluated the efficacy of a probiotic coating produced by fermenting Lactiplantibacillus plantarum 299 V in pomelo peel extract in combination with vacuum packaging in controlling the microbial loads of fresh-cut cantaloupe during storage. Inference of multiple mergers while dating a pathogen phylogeny.

The vast majority of pathogen phylogenetic studies do not consider the possibility of multiple merger events being present, where a single node of the tree leads to more than two descendent branches. These events are however likely to occur when studying a relatively small population or if there is high variability in the reproductive chances. Here we consider the problem of detecting the presence of multiple mergers in the context of dating a phylogeny, that is determining the date of each of the nodes.
