In the present investigation chitosan has been chemically modified by treating with two different aldehydes like acetaldehyde and propionaldehyde to form Schiff's bases. Schiff's bases of chitosan with acetaldehyde and propionaldehyde were named as polymer A and polymer B, respectively. Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) spectral data have confirmed the reaction carried out on chitosan. Drug free polymeric films of chitosan, chemically modified chitosan and chitosan/hydroxypropylmethylcellulose blend were prepared and evaluated for various physicochemical characters. Further, the films were incorporated with anti-inflammatory drug, etoricoxib using glycerol as plasticizer. The drug loaded films were cross-linked with sodium citrate and studied for permeation characteristics across dialysis membrane and rat skin. All the films were evaluated for bursting strength, swelling index, moisture uptake, thickness uniformity, drug content uniformity, tensile strength, percent elongation at break, percent flatness, water vapour transmission rate and in vitro drug permeation study.

Oleanolic acid (OA) is a food-derived bioactive component with antidiabetic activity, but its water solubility and oral bioavailability are notably restricted. In this study, to overcome these limitations, ursodeoxycholic acid-modified chitosan oligosaccharide (UCOS) was synthesized to encapsulate OA in self-assembled nanomicelles (UCOS-OA). The encapsulation efficiency and drug loading of UCOS-OA were 86 % and 11 %, respectively.

Background: For patients with osteoporosis and rotator cuff tears, there is still no consensus on current treatment methods. The material, structure, and number of anchors have important effects on the repair outcome.
Purpose: To investigate the use of chitosan quaternary ammonium salt-coated nickel-titanium memory alloy (NTMA) anchors to treat rotator cuff injury in shoulders with osteoporosis in a rabbit osteoporosis model.

In the present work, nitrogen-doped carbon was synthesized starting from a chitosan/urea mixture and immobilized at the surface of a bare glassy carbon electrode to detect Cd(II) ions using differential pulse-anodic stripping voltammetry method (DP-ASV). The synthesized nitrogen-doped carbon showed a significant potential for determining Cd(II) ions. Doping carbon with nitrogen atoms gives a structure with increased valence band energy, leading to acceleration of the electron transfer by creating an interaction of nitrogen's free electrons with Cd(II), which subsequently increases the peak current value.

The study aimed to compare the oxidative stress status in the kidney tissue of rats treated with paraquat and nanoparaquat. The levels of oxidative stress markers, including malondialdehyde (MDA), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), and thiol groups (TTG), were measured in the kidney tissue samples. A total of forty male Wistar rats were randomly assigned to eight groups, each consisting of five rats: a control group, a paraquat (PQ) group, an N-acetylcysteine (NAC) group, groups receiving nanoparaquat α and β (α and β), groups receiving PQ and NAC (PQ + NAC), and groups receiving nanoparaquat α and β with NAC (+ NACα and β).

In this work, temperature-responsive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) and the guanylthiourea (GLA) were used to modify chitosan (CS) to prepare a novel PNIPAM/GLA/CS adsorbent for Ag(I) ions. Temperature variations near the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) facilitate the adjustment of functional group distribution within the composite material, thereby influencing its adsorption performance for silver ions. The characteristics of this composite material were confirmed using a variety of techniques, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM), variable-temperature ultraviolet-visible near-infrared spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).
