A simple approximate formula is presented to describe the relationship between the physical focal lengths and the geometric focal lengths of spherically focused transducers with ultrasonic fields. This simple expression applies regardless of whether the focus strength is strong or weak, and regardless of whether the fluids are non-attenuating or attenuating. Analysis results show that the average error of the simple approximate formula is certainly less than 2% relative to the numerical solution.

We have observed the laser-assisted dynamic interference in the electron spectra triggered by attosecond pulse trains. The fingerprints of finer interference fringes, much smaller than the laser photon energy, have been clearly identified experimentally. Our measurements are successfully reproduced by theoretical simulations utilizing the numerical solution to the time-dependent Schrödinger equation and the strong-field approximation.

In this work, we investigate anharmonic vibrational polaritons formed due to strong light-matter interactions in an optical cavity between radiation modes and anharmonic vibrations beyond the long-wavelength limit. We introduce a conceptually simple description of light-matter interactions, where spatially localized cavity radiation modes couple to localized vibrations. Within this theoretical framework, we employ self-consistent phonon theory and vibrational dynamical mean-field theory to efficiently simulate momentum-resolved vibrational-polariton spectra, including effects of anharmonicity.

Pressure-improved Scott-Vogelius type elements.

The Scott-Vogelius element is a popular finite element for the discretization of the Stokes equations which enjoys inf-sup stability and gives divergence-free velocity approximations. However, it is well known that the convergence rates for the discrete pressure deteriorate in the presence of certain in a triangulation of the domain. Modifications of the Scott-Vogelius element such as the recently introduced pressure-wired Stokes element also suffer from this effect.

A generative model of the connectome with dynamic axon growth.

Connectome generative models, otherwise known as generative network models, provide insight into the wiring principles underpinning brain network organization. While these models can approximate numerous statistical properties of empirical networks, they typically fail to explicitly characterize an important contributor to brain organization-axonal growth. Emulating the chemoaffinity-guided axonal growth, we provide a novel generative model in which axons dynamically steer the direction of propagation based on distance-dependent chemoattractive forces acting on their growth cones.
