The optical control of physiological processes with high precision using photoswitches is an emerging strategy for non-invasive diagnosis and therapies, providing innovative solutions to complex biomedical challenges. Light-responsive cyclic conjugated-dienes (cCDs) have long been recognized for their 4π-photocyclization; however, photoswitching behaviour in medium-sized cCDs has recently been reported, representing a pioneering discovery in the field. Reinforced by previous experimental evidence corroborating the Woodward-Hoffmann rules, this report provides insight into the origin of the exotic dual photoexcitation mechanism devised to achieve thermo-reversible photoswitching in large cCDs with cyclodeca-1,3-diene as a prototype.

Objective: This study aimed to compare the biomechanics of implant prostheses and peri-implant bone among 6 different mandibular reconstruction models based on patient data involving the use of an upper free-end double-barrel fibula.
Methods: This study was an observational study. Five models were reconstructed using fibular-supported and implant-supported partial dentures.

Background: Significant osseous defects or osteonecrosis, precipitated by open fractures, infections, or neoplastic conditions, represent infrequent yet critical medical conditions. The free vascularized fibular graft (FVFG) is a challenging but straightforward, reliable surgical intervention for the reconstruction of defects across various anatomical regions. This study aims to compare, quantify, and demonstrate the FVFG's versatility.

Direct pacing of the mid myocardium where re-entry originates can be used to prevent ventricular arrhythmias and circumvent the need for painful defibrillation or cardiac ablation. However, there are no pacing electrodes small enough to navigate the coronary veins that cross these culprit scar regions. To address this need, we have developed an injectable ionically conductive hydrogel electrode that can fill the epicardial coronary veins and transform them into flexible electrodes.

This novel hybrid single-double-single barrel (1-2-1) design for fibula free flap reconstruction addresses the unique challenges presented by Brown Class III mandibular defects, which involve long-span defects at both bodies of the mandible and the chin. The importance of this design lies in its ability to overcome the limitations of traditional approaches in terms of mandible height and pedicle length, while optimizing both functional and esthetic outcomes. The technique utilizes a combination of single-double-single barrel fibula segments to achieve ideal esthetics and support for dental prosthesis across different areas of the mandible.
