Background: Hyperplasia of mammary glands (HMG) is a frequent disease, with increased cancer risk for women aged 20-55 years. The aim of this study was to explore a non-invasive method to identify which patients with breast complaints need additional mammography for HMG diagnosis.

Patients And Methods: Skin digital infrared thermal imaging (DITI) in 74 patients with HMG and 63 controls was carried out.

Results: In the controls, the temperature of points close to the breasts and ovaries decreased with age. In women older than 39 years, HMG patients showed persistently high temperatures but in the lower extremities there were no differences. With a threshold for thoracic skin point KI21 of 33.2 degrees C, sensitivity and specificity in distinguishing controls from HMGs were 96% and 52% (p=0.0001) respectively, as validated in a test set, similar to recent DITI results for breast cancer detection.

Conclusion: Infrared temperature imaging of specific skin points is a rapid, non-invasive method to identify patients requiring mammography to confirm HMG.

Background: Atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH) is a benign proliferative breast lesion. Surgical excision of ADH is often recommended to rule out underlying malignant disease.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the trends in ADH upgrade rates over time and identify the impact of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) use on upgrade rates.

This study aimed to explore the diagnostic value of the two cytology techniques, including liquid-based cytology of mammary ductal lavage fluid and nipple discharge smear cytology, in the intraductal lesions in patients with pathological nipple discharge (PND). This retrospective analysis included 119 patients with PND who underwent surgical treatment. At the same time, they all underwent fiberoptic ductoscopy (FDS), nipple discharge smear cytology and liquid-based cytology of ductal lavage fluid before surgery.

B3 breast lesions, classified as lesions of uncertain malignant potential, present a significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenge due to their heterogeneous nature and variable risk of progression to malignancy. These lesions, which include atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH), papillary lesions (PLs), flat epithelial atypia (FEA), radial scars (RSs), lobular neoplasia (LN), and phyllodes tumors (PTs), occupy a "grey zone" between benign and malignant pathologies, making their management complex and often controversial. This article explores the diagnostic difficulties associated with B3 lesions, focusing on the limitations of current imaging techniques, including mammography, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), as well as the challenges in histopathological interpretation.

Histopathology of spontaneous lesions in FVB/N mice.

J Toxicol Pathol

January 2025

Safety and Bioscience Research Department, Translational Research Division, Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. 216 Totsuka-cho, Totsuka-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa 244-8602, Japan.

The FVB/N mouse strain is widely used in transgenic studies and as a model for autoimmune diseases. Although spontaneous lesions have been reported in aged FVB/N mice, information regarding younger FVB/N mice is lacking. This study aimed to investigate the spontaneous lesions in young FVB/N mice.

Low Dose Tamoxifen for Breast Cancer Prevention: A Real-World Experience.

Clin Breast Cancer

December 2024

Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York, NY.

Purpose: There is limited data on the use of low dose tamoxifen (LDT) for chemoprevention since its introduction in 2019. This study sought to determine the rate of LDT uptake at our institution and describe factors associated with its use.

Methods: We performed a retrospective chart review of women diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS), and/or atypical hyperplasia from 2019 to 2021.
