Quantum chemical calculations have been performed to gauge the effect of pi-stacking and hydrogen bonding interactions on each other in X-ben//pyr...H-F (X = NO(2), CF(3), CN, F, Cl, CH(3) and OH) complexes. The results indicate the cooperativity of interactions in these complexes where face-to-face aromatic interactions and hydrogen bonding interactions coexist. The effects of substituents on the X-ben//pyr...H-F complexes have also been studied with the MP2 method using 6-31G** basis set. The total binding energy increases in both electron-donating and withdrawing substituents. Herein, computational results indicate an enhanced pi-stacking interaction for all substituted complexes related to an unsubstituted case. On the other hand, H...N hydrogen bond interaction is declined by strong electron withdrawing substituents (NO(2) and CN) only. The cooperativity of pi-stacking and H...N hydrogen bond interaction has also been studied by using the atoms in molecules (AIM), natural bond orbital (NBO) and molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) analyses. There are good relationships between the Hammett constants and energy data, geometrical parameters, and the results of population analysis in X-ben//pyr...H-F and X-ben//pyr complexes. The characteristics of interactions are directly related to the electrostatic interaction between the rings.

After cyclo-pentazolate anion, a 5/6 fused structure of N is constructed, and four novel nitrogen-rich ionic compounds are assembled on its basis. The results of the quantum calculations revealed an uneven distribution of electrons on cyclo-N , with significant charge density near the N5/N9 atoms and an ADCH charge of -0.425.

2-Ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate (EHDPP) is a replacement flame-retardant commonly found in several environmental matrices and human biospecimens. Although some adverse effects of EHDPP have been identified, the endocrine-disrupting effects of EHDPP and its key metabolites on the human estrogen receptor (ER) are largely unknown. Herein, we report for the first time that EHDPP, at concentrations found in the environment and humans, significantly promoted estrogenic activity and synergized with 17β-estradiol-induced ER transactivation.

Pancreatic lipase serves as a primary trigger for hyperlipidemia and is also a crucial target in the inhibition of hypercholesterolemia. By synthesizing anti-hypercholesterolemic drugs such as atorvastatin, which are used to treat hypercholesterolemia, there were some side effects associated with the long-term use of statins. Although various biochars from different biomass materials have been developed to remediate dye-contaminated environments, the removal capabilities of pristine biochar for dyes urgently require further enhancement due to insufficient surface adsorption sites. To introduce more adsorption sites, this work proposes a simple approach to fabricate coconut shell biochar (CSB) based adsorbent by anchoring zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) via the active sites provided by polydopamine (PDA)-coated CSB. The nucleation sites provided by the PDA layer promote the dispersion of ZIF-8 on the surface of CSB, resulting in sufficient adsorption sites for removing malachite green (MG) and rhodamine B (RB) from wastewater.

Iron fortification with food supplements remains the primary dietary strategy for improving iron deficiency anemia (IDA). This study used Antarctic krill protein for fibrillar design to form an Antarctic krill protein amyloid fibril (AKAF). The results indicated that peptides generated by proteolysis were a prerequisite for fibril assembly, forming elongated fibril structures and cross-linking upon heating.
