N-(4-Hydroxy-phenoxyethyl)-N'-ethyl-4,4'-bipyridium (1) can form a stable 1 : 1 inclusion complex with CB[8] in aqueous solution, in which the hydroxyphenol (HP) moiety is back-folded and inserted together with the viologen moiety into the cavity of CB[8]. When the ethyl viologen dication (EV(2+)) in 1 is reduced, chemically or electrochemically, an intramolecular partner radical (EV(+)*-HP)/CB[8] can be detected, meanwhile, a dynamic balance between the partner radical and the intermolecular radical dimer (EV(+)*-HP)(2)/CB[8] can be observed.

In view of the high propensity of tertiary alkyl amines to be bioactive, the development of new methods for their synthesis is an important challenge. Transition-metal catalysis has the potential to greatly expand the scope of nucleophilic substitution reactions of alkyl electrophiles; unfortunately, in the case of alkyl amines as nucleophiles, only one success has been described so far: the selective mono-alkylation of primary amines to form secondary amines. Here, using photoinduced copper catalysis, we report the synthesis of tertiary alkyl amines from secondary amines and unactivated alkyl electrophiles, two readily available coupling partners.

Introducing distinctive functional groups to expand the structural diversity and improve the intrinsic properties of parent molecules has been an essential pursuit in organic chemistry. By using perfluoroalkyl halide (PFAH) as a nontraditional, readily available, ideal 1,2-difluoroalkenyl coupling partner, a defluorinative cyclization reaction of enamides for the construction of fluoroalkenyl oxazoles is first developed. The selective and controllable two-fold cleavage of vicinal C(sp)─F bonds in PFAH not only enables the introduction of a specific 1,2-difluoroalkenyl moiety with ease but also results in the functionalization of two C(sp)─H bonds of enamides without the need for metal catalyst, photocatalyst, oxidant, or light.

Background: Tumor recurrence or metastasis after surgery is a significant factor influencing bladder cancer (BC) prognosis. Novel molecular biomarkers are necessary to determine each patient's specific outcome because current biomarkers have limited power for predicting prognosis. The proto-oncogene MET encodes c-MET, a tyrosine kinase receptor.

A photocatalytic sulfamoylation/5- cyclization of ()-'-arylidene--phenylmethacrylohydrazides with sulfamoyl chlorides was developed. The chemoselective intramolecular addition of the carbon-centered radical intermediate to the CN bond in the hydrazone motif gave the sulfamoylated pyrazolin-5-one. Besides, sulfonyl chlorides are also suitable reaction partners to access sulfonylated pyrazolin-5-ones.

The application of visible light as an energy source provides a new avenue in organic transformation due to its mildness, efficiency and selectivity. In fact, recent years have witnessed remarkable advances in photoinduced decarboxylative coupling reactions involving carboxylic acids and their derivatives. Under appropriate photoredox conditions they undergo single electron transfer (SET), resulting in reactive radicals which can assemble with suitable reaction partners.
