: The objective of this research was to compare two methods of conscious sedation (midazolam vs. sevoflurane) used for performing oral surgical procedures in the older adult population by analyzing dental treatment-related anxiety levels, the quality of sedation, and potential hemodynamic changes during the interventions, as well as post-recovery symptoms and patient satisfaction levels. : A total of 104 patients underwent oral surgery with intravenous (age: 84.

Effects on mechanical power of different devices used for inhaled sedation in a bench model of protective ventilation in ICU.

Ann Intensive Care

Hospices Civils de Lyon, Service de Médecine Intensive -Réanimation, Hôpital Edouard Herriot, 5 Place d'Arsonval, 69437, Lyon Cedex 03, France.

Background: Inhaled sedation during invasive mechanical ventilation in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has received increasing attention. However, inhaled sedation devices increase dead-space ventilation and an undesirable effect is the increase in minute ventilation needed to maintain CO removal. A consequence of raising minute ventilation is an increase in mechanical power (MP) that can promote lung injury.

Objective: To explore the mechanism underlying the protective effect of sevoflurane against ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI).

Methods: Thirty-two SD rats were randomized into mechanical ventilation (MV) group, MV+sevoflurane group (MS group), MV+sevoflurane+transient receptor potential vanillate subtype 4 (TRPV4) agonist group (MST group) and MV+ sevoflurane + vehicle group (MSV group). Arachidonic acid (AA) in the lung tissues was quantified with ELISA.

Here we explore the potential use of proton transfer reaction/selective reagent ion-time-of-flight-mass spectrometry (PTR/SRI-ToF-MS) to monitor hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) in breath. Investigations of the reagent ions HO, NO, and O are reported using (relative humidity (rH) ≈ 0%) and (rH ≈ 100%)) nitrogen gas containing traces of HFIP, i.e.

Introduction: Although venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV ECMO) is a reasonable salvage treatment for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), it requires sedating the patient. Sevoflurane and propofol have pulmonary protective and immunomodulatory properties. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of sevoflurane and propofol on rats with induced ARDS undergoing VV ECMO.
