The hormonal changes that accompany the transition to menopause are disruptive to most women, and for some, mental health maybe adversely affected. Depressive symptoms and major depression are the best-studied conditions in association with menopause, but anxiety, executive function, and comorbid pre-existing psychiatric conditions all influence the symptomatology that women will experience during this phase of their lives. The epidemiology, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment guidelines for perimenopausal patients are discussed.

Unlike high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC), which mainly affects postmenopausal women, mucinous ovarian carcinoma (MOC) affects younger patients, with a median age at diagnosis of 53 years, and is rare among premenopausal women. After they receive anticancer treatment, these women encounter specific issues involving fertility preservation (FP) and/or pregnancy, which potentially require assisted reproductive technology (ART) as well as the prescription of hormonal contraception (HC) or hormone replacement therapy (HRT). We reviewed the available literature in PubMed/Medline concerning the risks of the development of ovarian cancer (OC), including MOC, associated with ART, HC and HRT, and literature on the impact of ovarian stimulation in the context of FP and/or ART, HC and HRT in women previously treated for OC, including MOC.

Insulin plays a key role in metabolic homeostasis. insulin-producing cells (IPCs) are functional analogues of mammalian pancreatic beta cells and release insulin directly into circulation. Environmental conditions influence the maternal deposition of hormones into eggs, which is hypothesized to adaptively modify developmental outcomes in offspring. However, most ecosystems harbour environmental contaminants capable of disrupting endocrine signaling, and maternal exposure to these compounds has the potential to further alter offspring traits. Studies rarely examine maternally derived hormones and contaminants along with offspring phenotypes, and we know little about their interrelationships and potential interactions.
