Objective: To compare the newborn piglet models of hypoxic ischemic brain damage in hypoxia and hypoxia combined with occlusion of both carotid arteries.
Methods: Twenty four 7-day-old piglets were divided into two groups. Group H: mechanical ventilation with low concentration of oxygen, Group HI: mechanical ventilation with low concentration of oxygen combined with occlusion of both carotid arteries. The piglets were inhaled with 10%, 8%, and 6% low-concentration oxygen for 30 min, and grouped into mild, moderate, and severe hypoxia ones. The changes of physiological parameter, cerebral blood flow and cerebral oxygen perfusion were detected.
Results: There were no significant differences in blood gas analysis of oxygen saturation, blood lactic acid and pH between the two groups(P>0.05).The mean arterial pressure of severe hypoxia in HI was significantly lower than in H (P<0.05). The cerebral blood flow in H and HI was relatively stable after different degrees of hypoxia. As compared with the cerebral blood flow perfusion in group H and HI, there were no significant differences between them(P>0.05). The cerebral oxygen perfusion in H and HI was significantly descent after different degrees of hypoxia(P<0.05). As compared with the cerebral oxygen perfusion in groups H and HI, there were no significant differences between them.
Conclusion: H and HI have the same effect on physiological parameter, cerebral volume and cerebral oxygen perfusion of newborn piglets. The mechanical ventilation with low concentration of oxygen to newborn piglets can develop the HIBD model, it is not necessary to occlude carotid arteries.

Ankyloglossia is a congenital, abnormally short, thickened, or tight lingual frenulum that restricts tongue mobility, which may impair the development of the lower face morphology, namely the occlusion and skeleton. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether and how the lingual frenotomy benefits the occlusion and lower face skeleton development. The authors, independently and in duplication, performed searches of PubMed, Cochrane Library, Medline, Web of Science, and Embase, introducing the following keywords: tongue tie, ankyloglossia, and short lingual frenum/frenulum, combined with malocclusion, lower face skeleton, and hyoid bone.

Intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) and endovascular therapy (EVT) are the cornerstones of acute ischemic stroke treatment. While IVT has been an integral part of acute therapy since the mid-1990s, EVT has evolved as one of the most effective treatments in medicine over the past decade. Traditionally, systemic thrombolysis has been performed with alteplase (rtPA).

Background: Electroacupuncture (EA) and trigonelline (TG) have been reported to be beneficial in alleviating cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury (CIRI). However, the synergistic effects of EA and TG in CIRI and the underlying mechanism have not been demonstrated.
Methods: Rats were subjected to middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) surgery and reperfusion (MCAO/R) to establish a CIRI model.

Purpose: To investigate the safety and efficacy of endovascular embolization combined with external drainage for poor-grade ruptured cerebral aneurysms and risk factors.
Materials And Methods: Forty-six patients with poor-grade ruptured cerebral aneurysms treated with endovascular embolization combined with decompressive craniectomy and drainage were retrospectively enrolled.
Results: Coil embolization alone was performed in 29 (63.

Background: Near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) enables a non-invasive measurement of tissue oxygen saturation (StO) in regions illuminated by near-infrared lights. Vascular occlusion test (VOT) serves as a model to artificially induce forearm ischemia-reperfusion. The combination of StO monitoring and VOT allows for dynamic evaluation of the balance between oxygen delivery and consumption in tissue, as well as the functional reserve of microcirculation.
