Although low-power visible (VIS) and near infrared (nIR) radiation emitted from lasers, photodiodes, and other sources does not cause neoplastic transformation of the tissue, these phototherapeutic techniques are looked at with a great deal of caution for fear of their stimulatory effect on tumour growth. This apprehension arises in the first place from the reports on the possibility that the proliferative activity of tumour cells may increase after their in vitro exposure to light. Much less is known that these phototherapeutic modalities have been successfully used for the prevention and management of complications developing after surgery, chemo- and radiotherapy. The objective of the present review is to summarize the results of applications of low-power visible and near infrared radiation for the treatment of patients with oncological diseases during the last 20-25 years. It should be emphasized that 2-4 year-long follow-up observations have not revealed any increase in the frequency of tumour recurrence and metastasis.

Visible light photocatalysts hold great promise for water purification, yet research on highly efficient, non-toxic photocatalysts is limited. This study synthesized novel g-CN/AlOOH photocatalytic nanocomposites via thermal condensation, enhancing adsorption and visible light degradation by 36-fold and 11-fold, respectively, compared to g-CN alone. The nanocomposites achieved a 98% removal rate of methyl orange under xenon lamp irradiation (>400 nm) for 1 h.

Different types of devices with modulable resistance are attractive for the significant potential applications such as sensors, information storage, computation, etc. Although extensive research has been reported on resistance effects, there is still a need for exploring new mechanisms that offer advantages of low power consumption, high sensitivity, and long-term stability. Here, we report a graphene-Si based spatial-dependence photo-rheostat (SDPR), which enables bipolar resistance modulation in the range of 5 mm with a resistance sensitivity exceeding 1,000 Ω/mm at operating wavelengths from visible to near infrared band (1,550 nm).

In this study, we report the synthesis and characterization of a novel photocatalyst composite composed of functionalized carbon nanotubes (f-CNT) and phenyl-modified graphitic carbon nitride (PhCN). The incorporation of the phenyl group extends the absorption range into the visible spectrum compared to pure g-CN. Additionally, the formation of the heterostructure in the f-CNT/PhCN composite exhibits improved charge transfer efficiency, facilitating the separation and transfer of photogenerated electron-hole pairs and reducing recombination rates.

Chair in Hybrid Nanosystems, Nanoinstitute Munich, Faculty of Physics, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, 80539 München, Germany.

The technological requirements of low-power and high-fidelity color displays have been instrumental in driving research into advanced coloration technologies. At the forefront of these developments is the implementation of dye-free approaches, which overcome previous constraints related to color resolution and fading. Resonant dielectric nanostructures have emerged as a promising paradigm, showing great potential for high efficiency, high color saturation, wide gamut palette, and image reproduction.

The rapid development of visual neuromorphic hardware can be attributed to their ability to capture, store and process optical signals from the environment. The main limitation of existing visual neuromorphic hardware is that the realization of complex functions is premised on the increase of manufacturing cost, hardware volume and energy consumption. In this study, we demonstrated an optical synaptic device based on a three-terminal van der Waals (vdW) heterojunction that can realize the sensing functions of light wavelength and intensity as well as short-term and long-term synaptic plasticity.
