A simple and highly sensitive high-performance liquid chromatography procedure was developed for the determination of carnosine in urine. Carnosine was derivatized with 4-(5,6-dimethoxy-2-phthalimidinyl)-2-methoxyphenylsulfonyl chloride at 70 degrees C for 15 min in borate buffer (20 mmol l(-1), pH 9.0) to produce fluorescent sulfonamides. After hydrolysis of the reaction mixture with formic acid at 100 degrees C for 15 min, the fluorescent derivative of carnosine was separated on a reversed-phase column with a linear gradient elution using solvents of (A) acetate buffer (0.1 mmol l(-1), pH 7.0) and (B) acetonitrile at a flow-rate of 1.0 ml/min and was detected at excitation and emission wavelengths of 318 and 400 nm, respectively. The detection limit of carnosine was 4 fmol at a signal-to-noise ratio of 3. The within-day and day-to-day relative standard deviations were 2.7-4.6% and 0.4-5.2%, respectively. The concentration of carnosine in normal human urine was found to be 4.6-125 nmol (mg creatinine)(-1) (mean+/-SD: 21.6+/-26.6 nmol (mg creatinine)(-1), n=20).

4-Cyano-4'-ethoxybiphenyl (EBCN) is a representative cyano liquid crystal monomer (LCM). While prior studies have documented the widespread occurrence of LCMs in diverse environmental and biological samples, research on their reproductive effects in vivo remains limited. This study employed 35-day and 70-day exposure models in mice to assess the short-term and long-term effects of environmentally relevant concentrations of EBCN on testicular health.

Ammonia, a ubiquitous contaminant in aquatic ecosystems, poses multifaceted threats to fish species at elevated concentrations. In order to investigate the toxic effects of chronic ammonia stress on the liver of juvenile , the present experiment was conducted to investigate the differences in changes in liver tissue structure, enzyme activities, and metabolomes after 28 days of ammonia exposure (0, 4, 8, and 16 mg/L). The findings revealed that ammonia exposure induced significant oxidative stress in the liver, manifesting in decreased activities of antioxidant enzymes SOD and GSH-Px, elevated levels of GSH, GST, and MDA, and heightened activities of immune enzymes LZM, ALP, and ACP.

In this study, a robust and validated UHPLC-QqQ-MS/MS method was developed to quantify anserine and carnosine levels and their ratios to distinguish the geographical origin of red seabream (Pagrus major) from Japan and Korea. Comprehensive optimization of column types, mobile phase pH, organic solvent ratios, and internal standards identified the optimal conditions: an HILIC column at pH 5 with 75 % acetonitrile and PEH as the internal standard. The method exhibited excellent sensitivity, linearity, accuracy, and precision, establishing anserine as the most reliable biomarker for origin discrimination.

Introduction: Hyperuricemia (HUA) refers to the presence of excess uric acid (UA) in the blood, which increases the risk of chronic kidney disease and gout. Probiotics have the potential to alleviate HUA.
Methods: This study established a hyperuricemia model using (), and studied the anti-hyperuricemia activity and potential mechanisms of BC99 () at different concentrations (10 CFU/mL BC99, 10 CFU/mL BC99).

Dipeptides (DPs), composed of two amino acids (AAs), hold significant therapeutic potential but remain underexplored. Given the crucial role of AAs in central nervous system (CNS) function, this study investigated the presence of DPs in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and their correlation with corresponding AAs, potentially indicating their role as AA donors. Plasma and CSF samples were collected from 43 children with neurological or metabolic conditions of unknown origin, including 23 with epilepsy.
