Introduction: To mitigate gastroparesis as well as other post-operative complications, we undertook a prospective multicenter study to assess the feasibility, safety, and efficacy in the short-term outcomes of laparoscopic and thoracoscopic whole stomach esophagectomy with preoperative pyloric balloon dilatation.

Methods: A prospective descriptive study on 37 patients with laparoscopic and thoracoscopic whole stomach esophagectomy with preoperative pyloric balloon dilatation from January 2019 to March 2023. The perioperative indications, clinical data, intra-operative index, pathological postoperative specimens, postoperative complications, and follow-up results were retrospectively evaluated.

Objective: The aim of the study was to retrospectively analyze the patients who underwent thyroidectomy at a tertiary academic center regarding their surgical indications, histopathological diagnosis, and surgical complications.

Methods: The study included a total of 739 consecutive patients who underwent lobectomy, total thyroidectomy, or completion thyroidectomy performed under intraoperative nerve monitoring (IONM) at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery of Dokuz Eylül University between January 2009 and December 2019. Demographic data of the patients, preoperative clinicopathological characteristics, postoperative complications, characteristics of surgery and histopathological results were evaluated.

Detection of Lymphoid Markers (CD3 and PAX5) for Immunophenotyping in Dogs and Cats: Comparison of Stained Cytology Slides and Matched Cell Blocks.

Vet Sci

February 2023

Cytology and Hematology Diagnostic Services, Laboratory of Histology and Embryology, Department of Microscopy, ICBAS-School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University of Porto (U.Porto), Rua de Jorge Viterbo Ferreira, 228, 4050-313 Porto, Portugal.

Article Synopsis
  • Immunolabeling on Romanowsky-stained cytology (RSC) slides shows limited effectiveness for phenotyping lymphomas in dogs and cats compared to matched cell blocks (CB).
  • The study revealed that RSC had lower detection rates for CD3+ lymphocytes and faced challenges in identifying T-cell populations, while PAX5 showed good agreement between RSC and CB.
  • Interobserver agreement was better with CB, and it was found that pre-analytical variables significantly impacted the immunohistochemistry results on RSC, making CB samples more reliable for immunophenotyping.

Background: Mesenteric lymphatic malformations (LMs) represent rare congenital anomalies that can include chylous or nonchylous content. The pathologic mechanisms explaining this phenomenon are poorly understood and not yet described. Furthermore, the current management approach does not consider the contents of the mesenteric LMs.
