Introduction: Transfusion-related acute lung injury is a rare but potentially fatal complication, which may appear during or post-transfusion of blood products. Patients with macrophage activation syndrome, a serious life-threatening complication associated with systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis, often require transfusion or administration of blood products for correction of cytopenia, coagulopathy and hypofibrinogenemia.
Case Report: A 6-year-old girl with a past medical history of systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis had the first relapse of the disease during which she developed macrophage activation syndrome.

Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-cell (CAR T) therapy has become the preferable treatment in relapsed/refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCL) patients. Detection of CAR Ts in peripheral blood smear (PBS) is challenging due to insufficient data regarding their morphology and low sensitivity. The morphological evolution of CAR Ts along their production process, and in patients, was established by Full-Field Morphology (FFM), a novel digital microscopy approach that provides highly sensitive PBS analysis.

Platelet transfusion refractoriness (PTR) is an intractable issue in hematological patients, which increases bleeding risks and hospitalization costs to a great extent. We reviewed 108 patients with hematological diseases including acute leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, aplastic anemia, and others who received allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) from January 2019 through December 2020. After multivariable logistic regression, we found that splenomegaly (odds ratio [OR] = 26.

Background: Neonatal hemochromatosis causes acute liver failure during the neonatal period, mostly due to gestational alloimmune liver disease (GALD). Thalassemia causes hemolytic anemia and ineffective erythropoiesis due to mutations in the globin gene. Although neonatal hemochromatosis and thalassemia have completely different causes, the coexistence of these diseases can synergistically exacerbate iron overload.

Objective: Anemia inevitably affects the survival of cancer patients. In clinical practice, patients with anemia and decreased blood volume are treated by component blood transfusion. Through targeted blood transfusion therapy, the efficacy of blood transfusion treatment can be validly improved, which renders clinical benefits in reducing transfusion-induced adverse reactions (ARs).
