Robust and efficient ultrasound video coding in noisy channels using H.264.

In this paper we define diagnostic Regions of Interest (ROIs) for carotid ultrasound medical video, which we then use as input for Flexible Macroblock Ordering (FMO) slice encoding. We extend the FMO concept by enabling variable quality slice encoding, tightly coupled by each region's diagnostic importance. Redundant Slices (RS) utilization increases compressed video's resilience over error prone transmission mediums. We evaluate our scheme on a series of five (5) carotid ultrasound videos at QCIF and CIF resolutions, for packet loss rates up to 30%. Quality assessment based on a clinical rating system that provides for independent evaluations of the different parts of the video (subjective), as well as PSNR ratings (objective), shows that encoded videos attain enhanced diagnostic performance under noisy environments, while at the same time achieving significant bandwidth demands reductions.

Objective: The present study aims to investigate potential differences in cerebral blood flow between children with Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome (CDS) and those with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) using Doppler ultrasound.

Methods: In this single-center prospective study, we included 24 cases in the ADHD group with CDS symptoms, 29 cases in the ADHD group without CDS symptoms and, 26 children in the healthy controls. The children ranged in age from 6 to 15.

Little is known about the effects of sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) on atherosclerosis. We aimed to determine if a 90-day intake of Dapagliflozin could improve atherosclerosis biomarkers (namely endothelial function assessed by flow-mediated dilatation [FMD] and carotid intima-media thickness [CIMT]) in diabetic and non-diabetic acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients when initiated in the early in-hospital phase. ATH-SGLT2i was a prospective, single-center, observational trial that included 113 SGLT2i naive patients who were admitted for ACS and who were prescribed Dapagliflozin at a fixed dose of 10 mg during their hospital stay for either type 2 diabetes or for heart failure.

Introduction: Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), an in vivo imaging tool for evaluating intraplaque neovascularisation (IPN), is an increasingly researched marker of susceptible atherosclerotic plaque. This study aims to assess the feasibility of quantifying carotid IPN using CEUS and to identify and characterise the neovascularisation in carotid plaques. The hospital's ethical committee approved the study, and the informed individual consent form of CEUS was obtained from all patients before the examination.
