This paper introduces a new approach to process biomedical signals by surgically removing wave deflections in time domain. The method first determines the epochs of high frequency deflections, cuts out them from the signal, and then connects the two disconnected points. To determine the epoch of a deflection to be removed, four slope trace waves are used to isolate the deflection based on signal characteristics of amplitude, slope, duration, and distance from neighboring deflections. The method has been applied to simulated data and MIT-BIH arrhythmia database to show its practical efficacy in the case of baseline wandering removal. It is found that the method has the capability to identify and remove high frequency deflections appropriately, leaving low frequency deflection such as baseline drifting.

Regulation of cochlear hair cell function by intracellular calcium stores.

Front Cell Neurosci

November 2024

Department of Physiology, University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY, United States.

Introduction: Mammalian hearing depends on the dual mechanosensory and motor functions of cochlear hair cells. Both these functions may be regulated by Ca release from intracellular stores. However, it is still unclear how exactly intracellular Ca release may affect either hair cell mechano-electrical transduction (MET) or prestin-dependent electromotility in outer hair cells (OHCs).

A series of fluid-structure-interaction (FSI) experiments is presented for studying water-wave interactions with a flexible beam in a wide range of sea conditions, thereby yielding a repository of FSI test-case data. The aim is to use these experimental data in order to validate FSI solvers commonly employed by the maritime industry in the design of fixed-foundation, offshore wind turbines. The experimental set-up allows simultaneous measurements of beam deflections and their effect on incident and reflected waves.

Connection method of lengthening the steel tube of circular hollow sandwich concrete-filled steel tube by inside lining tube and thread is proposed. Twelve circular hollow sandwich concrete filled steel tubular beam-column connected by thread through inside lining tube are designed and fabricated using the length of the thread along the axial direction, the working height of the thread, and the position of the thread as parameters; In addition, one unconnected specimen and two welded specimens also are designed and fabricated to conduct controlled experimental research. The test phenomena and failure modes, axial compressive load-compression curve, axial compressive load-lateral deflection curve, and axial compressive load-strain in steel tube curve, as well as bearing capacity, strength reservation, deflection curve shape, lateral stiffness, ductility and plane section assumption are analyzed.

Metasurfaces with tunable functionalities are greatly desired for modern optical system and various applications. To increase the operating channels of polarization-multiplexed metasurfaces, we proposed a structure of N cascaded dual-channel metasurfaces to achieve 2 electrically switchable channels without intrinsic loss or cross-talk for certain functionalities, including beam steering, vortex beam generation, lens, etc. As proof of principles, we have implemented a 3-layer setup to achieve 8 channels.
