Background: Renal adverse drug reactions (ADRs) associated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) are relatively rare, and there is currently no standardized protocol for their management. Therefore, this study aimed to summarize renal ADRs related to TKIs use in CML and propose an evidence-based approach to monitor and manage these ADRs.

Methods: A systematic literature review was performed to identify renal ADRs associated with TKIs in CML.

Cardiovascular toxicity induced by TKIs in patients with chronic myeloid leukaemia: Are women and men different?

ESC Heart Fail

January 2025

Cardiology Unit, University Hospital 'Paolo Giaccone', Palermo Italy and Department of Health Promotion, Mother and Child Care, Internal Medicine and Medical Specialties (ProMISE) University of Palermo, Palermo, Italy.

Aims: Knowledge of the effects of sex in cardio-oncology is limited, particularly in patients treated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) for chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). This study aims to evaluate the influence of gender differences on the incidence of cardiovascular toxicity in patients with CML.

Methods: The study population consisted of 148 patients (45% women, mean age: 58 ± 14.

It is unusual for young patients without any underlying diseases to experience sudden cerebral infarction and heart failure. Here, we report a rare case of a 28-year-old female patient who presented with chest tightness and dizziness. Left ventricular thrombus formation and cardiac insufficiency were evident on echocardiogram, while multiple acute or subacute cerebral infarctions were visible on brain magnetic resonance imaging.

Introduction: Advances in the early detection and treatment of cancer have significantly improved the prognosis of patients with cancer. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are effective targeted treatments for various malignancies that act by inhibiting kinase activity. Although these drugs share a common mechanism of action, they differ in their targeted kinases, pharmacokinetics, and side effects.

Unlike second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors, effects of imatinib on the cardiovascular (CV) system are debatable. The current case-control study aimed to evaluate the CV effects of imatinib in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) using non-invasive 2D-echocardiography testing. Patients with CML ≥ 13 years attending the adult haematology clinic of a tertiary care hospital in north India were prospectively enrolled over 1.
