The relationship between gushing and antifungal peptides in barley and malt kernels was examined for five barley varieties produced in the Czech Republic with four conditions of infection and treatment. Proteome changes during pathogen-seed interaction were observed with SDS-PAGE and MALDI-TOF MS. These methods were applied as a fast screening for observing the relationship between gushing and peptides/proteins. It was found that the presence of basic peptides, presumably hordothionins and non-specific lipid transfer protein type 1, did not correlate with the degree of gushing for malt (/r/ in <0.07, 0.34>), (/r/ in <0.01, 0.49>), respectively, as detected by both methods.

To trace the origin of the gushing water in the riverine area of the Beijing section of The Middle Route of South-to-North Water Diversion Project, a dataset was established comprising water chemistry, three-dimensional fluorescence spectra, and stable isotopes for different water bodies. Results indicated significant differences in Electrical Conductivity (EC), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), and Ca concentration among the gushing water, river water, and the water from the Middle Route of South-to-North Water Diversion Project (MRSD). Analysis using parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC) and fluorescence index revealed that dissolved organic matter (DOM) in the MRSD mainly originated from endogenous sources, while the river water and gushing water showed influences from both endogenous and exogenous sources.

Water gushing is a common engineering geological disaster in the process of foundation pit construction. Its successful judgment directly affects the safety of engineering construction. Taking the case of water gushing at the bottom of the foundation pitas as a research object, the mechanism and treatment of water gushing in foundation pits, the stability against water gushing, and its influencing factors are analyzed with a field investigation, field testing, and theoretical calculation.

Certain lineages of the wine, beer and bread yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae have diastatic activity. They contain the chimeric gene STA1 that codes for an extracellular glucoamylase which enables the strains to degrade starch and dextrins. Beer contaminations by diastatic yeasts can be dangerous because they can cause super-attenuation due to the consumption of otherwise non-fermentable oligosaccharides, gushing and off-flavours.

Steep Cone Geyser is a unique geothermal feature in Yellowstone National Park (YNP), Wyoming, actively gushing silicon-rich fluids along outflow channels possessing living and actively silicifying microbial biomats. To assess the geomicrobial dynamics occurring temporally and spatially at Steep Cone, samples were collected at discrete locations along one of Steep Cone's outflow channels for both microbial community composition and aqueous geochemistry analysis during field campaigns in 2010, 2018, 2019, and 2020. Geochemical analysis characterized Steep Cone as an oligotrophic, surface boiling, silicious, alkaline-chloride thermal feature with consistent dissolved inorganic carbon and total sulfur concentrations down the outflow channel ranging from 4.

A thorough understanding of the control mechanisms of coal reservoir modification on methane adsorption and desorption is essential as this is a key technique for increasing the effectiveness of gas extraction. In this study, molecular dynamics simulations and neural networks were used to evaluate the effects of several coal reservoir alteration factors on gas desorption, from both microscopic and macroscopic perspectives. The findings demonstrated a direct correlation between coal pore size and the amount of methane adsorbed, as well as an inverse relationship between coal pore size and methane adsorption capacity and energy.
