In patients with myotonic dystrophy (MD), impairment of the conduction system is a common and progressive finding. However, only a few cases of MD with cardiomyopathy have been reported. Herein we report a case of MD with progressive non-ischemic cardiomyopathy and severe electrocardiographic abnormalities.

Objectives: Edge-to-edge mitral valve repair with MitraClip leads to a differed flow pattern and a decreased flow velocity at the left ventricle apex. This combination may lead to initiation of thrombus formation, especially in patients with severely reduced ejection fraction. The prevalence and mechanism of left ventricular thrombus formation after MitraClip implantation is still unknown.

Cardiogenic shock in women: From risk factors to therapy.

Kardiol Pol

December 2024

Department of Cardiology, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Cardiogenic shock (CS) in women is a serious cardiovascular (CV) event associated with a high mortality rate. Non-ischemic etiologies are the most common etiologies in women, such as stress-induced cardiomyopathy, peripartum/postpartum cardiomyopathy, heart failure-related CS, or CS due to myocarditis or valvular heart disease. Although not being the most common etiology in women, acute myocardial infarction is still an important one.

Background: Previous studies report that Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) may be associated with non-ischemic cardiomyopathy (NICM); However, the causal relationship remains to be elucidated. Here, we aimed to investigate the causal relationship between HT and NICM through Mendelian randomization (MR) and explore the potential mediating role of inflammatory cytokines within this association.

Methods: The bidirectional two-sample MR, multivariable MR and mediation MR analyses were conducted based on genome-wide association study summary datasets, and MR results were further supported by multiple sensitivity analysis methods.

Objectives: It is estimated that 20% of patients undergoing elective abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair suffer from cardiomyopathy. This study examines the impact of reduced ejection fraction (EF) on the outcomes of endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) and compares the different types of cardiomyopathies causing reduction of EF. Our hypothesis is that reduction in EF is associated with higher mortality after EVAR.

Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), a form of non-ischaemic myocardial disease, is characterised by structural and functional cardiac abnormalities. As defined by the World Health Organisation, DCM constitutes a significant cardiac pathology, leading to increased morbidity and mortality due to complications such as heart failure and arrhythmias. The diagnostic process for DCM predominantly employs echocardiography and MRI, with biomarkers like NT-pro BNP and troponin providing supportive, yet non-specific, evidence.
