Sacubitril/valsartan, a first-in-class angiotensin receptor neprilysin inhibitor, is widely used to treat heart failure. Despite its efficacy, sacubitril/valsartan inevitably causes adverse events such as hypotension, renal dysfunction, hyperkalemia, and angioedema. Sacubitril/valsartan-associated ototoxicity is often underreported in clinical studies and real-world settings.

Background: Qi Li Qiang Xin (QLQX) capsule has a solid theoretical basis and clinical efficacy in the treatment of chronic heart failure; however, the underlying mechanisms remain obscure. This study was designed to determine the effect of the QLQX on the treatment of heart failure and delineate the underlying mechanisms via a nontargeted metabolomics and lipidomics approach.
Methods: A rat model of heart failure after myocardial infarction (MI) was established via permanent ligation of the anterior descending branch of the left coronary artery.

Coronary heart disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) often co-occur, presenting substantial health risks, particularly following acute myocardial infarction (AMI). While percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a prevalent treatment, complications such as microvascular dysfunction may lead to heart failure, necessitating additional therapies. This editorial examines the emerging roles of sacubitril/valsartan and sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors in managing post-PCI.

Introduction: With the increasing prevalence of hypertension, the incidence of kidney diseases is also increasing, resulting in a serious public burden. Jiangya Tongluo decoction (JYTL), a recognized prescription in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), is commonly used to calm an overactive liver and reduce excess yang, while also promoting blood flow to alleviate obstructions in the meridians. Previous research has indicated that JYTL may help mitigate kidney damage caused by hypertension; however, the underlying mechanisms have not been thoroughly assessed.

This research study critically evaluates the concentrations of selected pharmaceuticals found within wastewater and at various stages within a selected wastewater treatment plant. The study further investigates the effects of seasonal variation, between wet and dry months, on the removal of target analytes. To the best of the authors' knowledge, ivermectin in wastewater has not been investigated in South Africa.
