The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) project is focused on enhancing nursing curricula and fostering faculty development to support student achievement of quality and safety competencies. The purpose of this descriptive study was to assess student perspectives of quality and safety content in their nursing programs along with self-reported levels of preparedness and perceived importance of the 6 QSEN competencies. Graduating students (n = 565) from 17 US schools of nursing completed an electronic student evaluation survey. Students reported exposure to QSEN knowledge areas, more often in classroom and clinical learning settings than in skills lab/simulation settings. Clinical experience outside of formal education was associated with perceptions of a higher level of preparedness for QSEN skills in several competencies. In general, students reported relatively high levels of preparedness in all types of prelicensure nursing programs and endorsed the importance of quality and safety competencies to professional practice.

Surface receptor-targeted Protein-based nanocarriers for drug delivery: Advances in cancer therapy.

Nanotechnology

January 2025

Department of Biotechnology, Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education (Deemed to be University), Anand Nagar, School of Bio, Chemical & Process Enginneering, Krishnankoil, Krishnan Kovil, Tamil Nadu, 626126, INDIA.

Significant progress has been made in cancer therapy with protein-based nanocarriers targeted directly to surface receptors for drug delivery. The nanocarriers are a potentially effective solution for the potential drawbacks of traditional chemotherapy, such as lack of specificity, side effects, and development resistance. Peptides as nanocarriers have been designed based on their biocompatible, biodegradable, and versatile functions to deliver therapeutic agents into cancer cells, reduce systemic toxicity, and maximize therapy efficacy through utilizing targeted ligands such as antibodies, amino acids, vitamins, and other small molecules onto protein-based nanocarriers and thus ensuring that drugs selectively accumulate in the cancer cells instead of healthy organs/drug release at a target site without effects on normal cells, which inherently caused less systemic toxicity/off-target effect.

Gadopiclenol Enables Reduced Gadolinium Dose While Maintaining Quality of Pulmonary Arterial Enhancement for Pulmonary MRA: An Opportunity for Improved Safety and Sustainability.

Invest Radiol

January 2025

From the Departments of Radiology (J.F.H., S.Y.C., J.-P.G., J.S., P.N., S.B.R., T.M.G.), Biomedical Engineering (S.B.R., T.M.G.), Medical Physics (S.Y.C., S.B.R., T.M.G.), Medicine (S.B.R.), and Emergency Medicine (S.B.R.), University of Wisconsin-Madison, WI; and Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology (J.F.H., J.-P.G.), University Hospital Würzburg, Würzburg, Germany.

Rationale And Objectives: Pulmonary magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) is an imaging method with proven utility for the exclusion of pulmonary embolism and avoids the need for ionizing radiation and iodinated contrast agents. High-relaxivity gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs), such as gadopiclenol, can be used to reduce the required gadolinium dose for pulmonary MRA. The aim of this study was to compare the contrast enhancement performance of gadopiclenol with an established gadobenate dimeglumine-enhanced pulmonary MRA protocol.

Background: The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) publishes annual guidance on the treatment of antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) gram-negative infections. Within the AMR guidance, suggested dosages of antibiotics for adults infected with AMR pathogens are provided. This document serves as a companion document to the IDSA guidance to assist pediatric specialists with dosing β-lactam agents for the treatment of AMR infections in children.

Importance: Airway stenosis is a rare but debilitating disorder that significantly degrades the quality of life in affected patients. Treatments are primarily surgical, and disease management lacks established medical therapies. The North American Airway Collaborative held its third symposium at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, on April 15, 2024, focused on strategies to advance the care of these patients.

Introduction: Palmoplantar psoriasis (PPp) has a profound negative impact on patients' quality of life, and it represents a therapeutic challenge, as palms and soles are difficult to treat area. Although the efficacy profile of tildrakizumab has been well evaluated in the literature, data on its use for PPp are still limited. The objective of the study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of tildrakizumab on moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis with involvement of the palmoplantar area.
