Evaluation of: Mortensen EM, Copeland LA, Pugh MJ et al. Impact of statins and ACE-inhibitors on mortality after COPD exacerbations. Respir. Res. 10, 45 (2009). Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease of the airways associated with increased prevalence worldwide and with increasing mortality. It is commonly associated with cardiovascular comorbid conditions and this association may impact reciprocally on disease morbidity and mortality. Statins and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors are known for their effects on cardiovascular mortality reduction, and several studies have demonstrated their effects on mortality in COPD patients (particularly for statins). e study by Mortensen et al. was a large, retrospective analysis on the impact of statins and/or angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors prehospitalization on 90-day mortality in patients hospitalized for COPD exacerbations. It demonstrated the significant effects on mortality rate reduction of these two classes of compounds, highlighting their effects on mortality in several subsets of COPD patients with high-risk cardiovascular comorbid conditions.

Background: Hypertension, a leading global risk factor for mortality and disability, disproportionately affects racial and ethnic minorities. Our study investigates the association between the type of prior antihypertensive medication use and the likelihood of cardiovascular events (CVE) and assesses whether the patient's race influences this relationship.

Methods: A retrospective study of 14 836 hypertension cases aged ≥ 40 years was conducted using data from HCA Healthcare between 2017 and 2023.

The SARS-CoV-2 infection has spread to various areas of the world, and the number of infected people, seriously ill people, and deaths have increased in 2020∼2023. It is important to suppress the spread of virus from infected people to non-infected people in order to prevent the disease from becoming more severe. To protect widespread of virus, flavor/fragrances composition was selected as a convenient effective material to protect the inhibition.

Purpose: Outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) derived from Gram-negative bacteria naturally serve as a heterologous nano-engineering platform, functioning as effective multi-use nanovesicles for diagnostics, vaccines, and treatments against pathogens. To apply refined OMVs for human theranostic applications, we developed naturally exposed receptor-binding domain (RBD) OMVs grafted with antigen 43 as a minimal modular system targeting angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2).

Methods: We constructed -derived OMVs using the antigen 43 autotransporter system to display RBD referred to as viral mimetic Ag43β700_RBD OMVs.

Background: Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney disease and contributes to 38% of kidney failure requiring dialysis. A gap in detection and management of type 2 diabetes (T2D) in chronic kidney disease (CKD) exists in primary care. Community pharmacists are positioned to support those not able to access kidney care through traditional pathways.

Myocardial infarction (MI), a severe cardiovascular disease, is the result of insufficient blood supply to the myocardium. Despite the improvements of conventional therapies, new approaches are needed to improve the outcome post-MI. Imperatorin is a natural compound with multiple pharmacological properties and potential cardioprotective effects.
