In shotgun proteomics, the analysis of tandem mass spectrometry data from peptides can benefit greatly from high mass accuracy measurements. In this study, we have evaluated two database search strategies which use high mass accuracy measurements of the peptide precursor ion. Our results indicate that peptide identifications are improved when spectra are searched with a wide mass tolerance window and precursor mass is used as a filter to discard incorrect matches. Database searches with a peptide data set constrained to peptides within a narrow mass window resulted in fewer peptide identifications but a significantly faster database search time.

Introduction: Continued interest in the optimization of recovery in aesthetics has led to the exploration of adjunctive therapies. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) serves as one such therapy that may have an impact in this field. HBOT is hypothesized to improve ischemia, reduce swelling, and minimize secondary hypoxic tissue damage.

Algoritmi Research Centre, University of Minho, Campus de Azurém, 4800-058, Guimarães, Portugal.

The vibration perception threshold (VPT) is the minimum amplitude required for conscious vibration perception. VPT assessments are essential in medical diagnostics, safety, and human-machine interaction technologies. However, factors like age, health conditions, and external variables affect VPTs.

Chronic heart failure (CHF) represents one of the most severe and advanced stages of cardiovascular disease. Despite the critical importance of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) in CHF management, while studies have explored the effectiveness of various CR delivery modes and offered valuable context-specific insights, their relative efficacy remains inconsistent across different patient groups, healthcare environments, and intervention approaches. A clearer understanding requires comprehensive comparisons and in-depth analyses to address these variations.

Unit of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Public Health, Department of Cardiac Thoracic Vascular Sciences and Public Health, University of Padova, via Loredan 18, Padova, 35131, Italy.

This study presents a method for automating the retrieval of key identifies and links to toxicological data from the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) database using web scraping techniques. Although the method primarily serves as an automated indexing tool, facilitating organization and access to relevant reports, monographs, and specifications, it significantly enhances the efficiency of navigating the extensive JECFA database. Researchers can then perform more targeted and efficient searches, although additional manual steps are required to extract and structure the detailed toxicological data.

Classification of influencing factors of speaking-up behaviour in hospitals: a systematic review.

BMC Health Serv Res

December 2024

Centre for Safety in Healthcare, at the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management, Delft University of Technology, Jaffalaan 5, Delft, 2628 BX, the Netherlands.

Background: Speaking up among healthcare professionals plays an essential role in improving patient safety and quality of care, yet it remains complex and multifaceted behaviour. Despite awareness of potential risks and adverse outcomes for patients, professionals often hesitate to voice concerns due to various influencing factors. This complexity has encouraged research into the determinants of speaking-up behaviour in hospital settings.
