Use of Foley catheter in patients with ileostomy, for the decompression of large bowel distal to stoma or for the administration of large bowel enema through colostomy, either to treat constipation or for bowel preparation prior to colonoscopy, is a common practice. Accidental migration of catheter during bowel irrigation through stoma can take place if it is not secured externally to the skin. We present 2 such cases with intra-colonic migration of Foley catheter that occurred during bowel irrigation and were retrieved endoscopically.

Background: Vedolizumab, an antibody blocking integrin α4β7, is a safe and effective therapy for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Blocking α4β7 from binding its cognate addressin MAdCAM-1 on intestinal blood vessel endothelial cells prevents T cells from migrating to the gut mucosa in animal models. However, data supporting this mechanism of action in humans is limited.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the fundamental mechanisms of colonic motility in the house musk suncus (Suncus murinus) as an established animal model of gut motility.

Methods: To measure gut motility in free-moving conscious suncus, strain gauge force transducers were implanted on the serosa of the colon and gastric body.

Key Results: We recorded diurnal changes in colonic motility and observed the relationship between feeding and colonic motility.
