Complexation of known drugs with carbohydrate-containing plant metabolites is a promising way to synthesize new drugs that does not only save pharmacological properties of initial agent but also acquire a number of advantageous features such as increased water solubility, bioavailability and decreased toxicity. This review reports on the development and pharmacological evaluation of novel complexes of various well-known drugs with vegetable coplexation agents: glycyrrhizic acid, Stevia glycosides, gypsogenin tetraoside, pectin, xyloglucan, arabinogalactan. The aim of this review is to describe advantages of the new approach, suggested by authors, in the development of low toxic and high-performance drugs.

Purpose: Rapid gastric emptying and intestinal absorption of beverages is essential for rapid rehydration, and certain amino acids (AA) may augment fluid delivery. Three sugar-free beverages, containing differing AA concentrations (AA + PZ), were assessed for fluid absorption kinetics against commercial sugar-free (PZ, GZ) and carbohydrate-containing (GTQ) beverages.
Methods: Healthy individuals (n = 15-17 per study) completed three randomised trials.

Microalgae are abundant components of the biosphere rich in low molecular weight carbohydrate-containing natural products (glycoconjugates). Glycoconjugates take part in the processes of photosynthesis, provide producers with important biological molecules, influence other organisms and are known by their biological activities. Some of them, for example, glycosylated toxins and arsenicals, are detrimental and can be transferred via food chains into higher organisms, including humans.
