A procedure for separation and preconcentration trace amount of Cu(II), Fe(III) and Pb(II) by 2-((2-aminoethylamino)methyl)phenol-functionalized activated carbon (AC-AMP) packed column has been proposed. Under the optimized conditions (pH 4, flow rate 2.0 mL min(-1)), Cu(II), Fe(III) and Pb(II) were retained on the column, then quantitatively eluted by 2 mL 1 mol L(-1) nitric acid solution and determined by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). The tolerance limits of electrolytes were very high. The adsorption capacity of AC-AMP was found to be 12.1, 67.1, and 16.2 mg g(-1) for Cu(II), Fe(III), and Pb(II), respectively. According to the definition of International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, the detection limits (3 sigma) of this method for Cu(II), Fe(III) and Pb(II) were 0.27, 0.41 and 0.16 microg L(-1), respectively. The relative standard deviation under optimum conditions is less than 3.0% (n=11). The proposed method has been validated by analyzing a certified reference material and successfully applied to the preconcentration and determination of Cu(II), Fe(III), and Pb(II) in actual samples with satisfactory results.

Gold-silver synergism has been well documented in many scientific works dealing with luminescent nanostructures that are exploitable in biomedical and environmental application. Frequently, the ratio of Au : Ag in synthetic mixtures was varied to influence the extent of Au-Ag synergism of the resulting luminescent gold-silver nanoclusters (GSNCs). However, in our approach, a new step, maturing under differing conditions using the same Au : Ag ratio (5 : 1), has been investigated systematically for the very first time.

In the present study, 5-Hydroxy-2-(Oleoyloxymethyl) -4H-pyran-4-one (KMO 3), and their chelated with Cu(II) and Fe(III) ions were synthesized to explore their inhibitory activity against tyrosinase and cytotoxicity. To this end, the structures of the obtained compounds were confirmed by ATR/FT-IR, 13C and 1H-NMR, and UV-vis techniques. The results show that chelating fatty ester presents the bands at 1567m, 1511w cm-1 attributed to the coordinated carbonyl (Cu(II)←[O=C]2), and the bands at 1540m, 1519m cm-1 which were attributed to the coordinated carbonyl (Fe(III)←[O=C]3).

Imaging abnormal copper/iron with effective fluorescent tools is essential to comprehensively put insight into many pathological events. However, conventional coordination-based detection is mired in the fluorescence quenching induced by paramagnetic Cu(II)/Fe(III). Moreover, the strong chelating property of the probe will consume dissociative metal ions and inevitably interfere with the physiological microenvironment.

Some specific anthraquinone derivatives (AQs) are known to be used widely as effective chemotherapeutic agents in the treatment of cancer. However, their fundamental shortcoming is the high rate of cardiotoxicity observed in treated patients, which is thought to be caused by the increase in production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) catalyzed by iron and copper. The development of improved AQs and other anticancer drugs with enhanced efficacy but reduced toxicity remains a high priority.

To enhance tumor comprehensive therapeutic effect of nanomedicines, an efficient strategy that integrates polydopamine and IR780 photothermal therapy, glucose oxidase (GOx) starvation therapy, Banoxantrone (AQ4N) and Tirapazamine (TPZ) dual hypoxia chemotherapy is developed in chronological order. Higher tumor accumulation of porous dual infinite coordination polymer nanocomposites are designed and prepared to implement this strategy, in which fluorescent dye IR780 doped hypoxic prodrugs AQ4N and TPZ coordinated with Cu(II) as the core, this core is encapsulated by GOx-loaded porous polydopamine coordinated with Fe(III) (Fe-MPDA). These nanocomposites exhibit a particle dimension of 118.
