Triggered by the urgent need to tackle the global crisis of multidrug-resistant bacterial infections, in this work, we present a way to overcome chloramphenicol resistance by introducing modifications based on the glycosylation of its hydroxyl groups. The synthesized derivatives demonstrate complete resistance to the action of recombinant chloramphenicol acetyltransferase (CAT) from Escherichia coli and efficacy against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Escherichia coli ESBL, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. Glycosylation gives chloramphenicol an additional advantage - the stable glycosidic form is less toxic to human dermal fibroblasts and has significantly better water solubility than non-glycosylated chloramphenicol.

In the face of the climate change crisis, circular economy (CE) is put forward as a promising key to the sustainable development goals (SDGs) riddle. In this context that affects developed and developing countries alike, circular initiatives arise, such is the case for Morocco where an industrial synergy based on the CE concept of 'waste is food' can be envisioned between the local phosphate and cement industries. In order to support and guide this initiative, a life cycle assessment (LCA) was conducted to compare the environmental performance of the production of ordinary Portland cement (OPC), limestone calcined clay cement (LC3) and a phosphate waste-based cement known as calcined marl cement (CMC).

Background/objectives: The rise of antibiotic-resistant pathogens has become a global health crisis, necessitating the development of alternative antimicrobial strategies. This study aimed to optimize the antibacterial effects of essential oils (EOs) from , , and , enhancing their efficacy through optimized mixtures.
Methods: This study utilized a simplex-centroid design to optimize the mixture ratios of EOs for maximal antibacterial and antioxidant effectiveness.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) represents a critical threat to human, animal, and environmental health, challenging global efforts to maintain sustainable ecosystems and public health systems. In this review, the complex, cross-disciplinary issues of AMR are explored within the framework of planetary health, emphasizing the interconnectedness of human and veterinary medicine with broader environmental and social systems. Specifically, it addresses the social, economic, environmental, and health dimensions of AMR under the planetary health framework.
