Published: January 2010

Objective: To evaluate and validate the Classification of Psoriatic Arthritis (CASPAR) criteria for PsA in a Chinese population.

Methods: Data were collected prospectively from consecutive Han Chinese clinic attendees with PsA and other chronic inflammatory arthritis. Subjects were classified according to Moll and Wright, European Spondyloarthropathy Study Group (ESSG) criteria for PsA, Vasey and Espinoza or CASPAR criteria. Sensitivity and specificity of each set of criteria were compared with the expert clinical diagnosis. Latent class analysis was used to calculate accuracy of criteria and confirm validity.

Results: A total of 108 (53 males and 55 females) subjects with PsA were recruited. Mean (s.d.) age and duration of illness were 48.4 (12.0) and 9.55 (7.66) years, respectively. Data were compared with 195 controls with RA (n = 154) and AS (n = 41). The ESSG criteria have the lowest sensitivity, followed by the Moll and Wright criteria. The sensitivity and specificity for the CASPAR criteria were 98.2 and 99.5%, respectively, which is similar to reported values in European populations. The latent class model agreed closely with the clinical criteria.

Conclusions: The CASPAR criteria performed well in a Chinese population, which is very different from the populations for which they were developed. The CASPAR criteria have higher sensitivity in classifying PsA.

Introduction: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a heterogeneous disease with various manifestations such as dactylitis, enthesitis, spondylitis, and skin involvement. Minimal disease activity (MDA) has been successfully used in daily clinical practice and is considered a reasonable treatment target in patients with PsA. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the MDA status and associated factors in patients with PsA in our tertiary referral clinic.

Objective: The purposes of this study were to assess the clinical characteristics of patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) who fulfill the ClASsification criteria for Psoriatic ARthritis (CASPAR) 18 years after disease onset in a population-based setting and to identify features likely to predict psoriatic arthritis (PsA).

Methods: Patients with JIA from defined geographic regions of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden with disease onset from 1997 to 2000 were enrolled prospectively and followed up for 18 years. Clinical, laboratory, and heredity data for psoriasis were collected.

Objective: The risk of both osteoporosis and sarcopenia is high in inflammatory diseases, but there have been few reports of psoriatic arthritis (PsA). This study aimed to evaluate the rate of sarcopenia and osteoporosis, and the association of sarcopenia with osteoporosis in patients with PsA at our institution.

Methods: The data in this study were extracted from 320 patients with PsA meeting CASPAR criteria diagnosed between January 2010 and December 2021.

Risk factors and assessment of subclinical atherosclerosis in patients with psoriatic arthritis.

Clin Investig Arterioscler

November 2024

Department of Rheumatology and Immunology, Fifth Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, Shanxi Provincial People's Hospital, Taiyuan, Shanxi 030012, China. Electronic address:

Objective: To understand the prevalence of subclinical atherosclerosis (SCA) in psoriatic arthritis (PsA) patients; to explore the correlation between PsA combined with SCA and traditional cardiovascular risk factors and disease activity; to compare the role of Framingham Risk Score (FRS) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) scores.

Methods: We included 50 PsA patients who met the CASPAR classification criteria, 50 diabetes patients and 50 healthy people. Clinical data were collected from all patients, minimal disease activity (MDA), disease activity index for psoriatic arthritis (DAPSA), ASCVD, FRS were assessed in patients with PsA, and carotid artery intima-media thickness was measured.

Article Synopsis
  • TMJ involvement in psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is rare but can cause significant pain and difficulty with jaw movement, as illustrated by a 35-year-old male patient with guttate psoriasis.
  • The patient experienced TMJ pain, decreased mouth opening, and symptoms of inflammatory pain in the lumbar and buttock regions, leading to a diagnosis of PsA.
  • Effective treatment with tumor necrosis factor alpha inhibitors resulted in full remission, highlighting the importance of timely diagnosis and management to prevent long-term TMJ damage and improve quality of life.
