We report a cutaneous abscess due to Gemella morbillorum, a Gram positive coccus found in oropharyngeal flora, that rarely causes disease in humans. Infections associated to this agent are similar to those related to viridans streptococci. There have been reports of endovascular infections (predominantly endocarditis) and also of acute invasive infections. Few previous reports are available of cutaneous infection.

Objectives: Ruptured mycotic pseudoaneurysms are rare, yet devastating complications that can prove challenging to manage. In immunocompromised populations, highly virulent organisms such as Gemella morbillorum can be especially difficult to combat. Here, we outline our approach to temporizing maneuvers in an emergent setting and definitive revascularization in a 27-year-old with a ruptured mycotic iliac artery pseudoaneurysm from necrosis of her kidney and pancreas allografts.

Background: Acute suppurative thyroiditis (AST) is a rare form of thyroid inflammation prevalently of bacterial origin, that usually affects subjects with risk factors such as immunodeficiency, sepsis, and neck fistulas. The most prevalent pathogens associated with AST are gram-positive aerobic bacteria, followed by gram-negatives, while infections by anaerobic germs are exceptionally rare. Gemella morbillorum is a facultative anaerobic gram-positive bacterium that commonly populates the upper respiratory tract.
