Wang Qingren, a Chinese physician, made interesting observations regarding the cardiovascular system approximately 200 years ago. His textbook of anatomy was based on cadaveric dissections only and this resulted in many of his observations being erroneous. Nevertheless, Wang made steps forward in reversing past misconceptions based on Chinese mysticism.

The sequential weight loss-on-ignition (WLOI) method for determination of organic and carbonate or inorganic carbon (C) content was evaluated on sediments from diverse sources with a great range of C contents. The sediments were collected from canal, wetland, river, estuary, lake, and marine sites. The organic and inorganic C contents of these samples ranged from 1 to 430 g kg( -1) and from 4 to 97 g kg( -1), respectively.

Pot experiment on 3 crops (wheat, corn, oilseed rape) and a pasture (clover) under 5 levels (0, 5, 10, 20, 40 mg.kg-1) of sulfur (S) was carried out to study S application on yield production, S contents and their relationship of these crops. The results showed that under S application, the biomass of four plants increased by 5-32%, and the grain yield increased by 3-20%.
