There is a synergistic relationship between epilepsy and intellectual disability (ID), and the approach to managing people with these conditions needs to be holistic. Epilepsy is the main co-morbidity associated with ID, and clinical presentation tends to be complex, associated with higher rates of treatment resistance, multi-morbidity and premature mortality. Despite this relationship, there is limited level 1 evidence to inform treatment choice for this vulnerable population.

Background: The X-chromosome remains largely unexplored in Alzheimer's disease (AD). We performed the first, stratified X-wide association study (XWAS) of AD to chart the role of X-chromosome genetic variation in AD sexual dimorphism and heterogeneity of APOE*4-related AD risk.

Hypertension and orthostatic hypotension (OH) frequently coexist in the older population, both stemming from impaired blood pressure (BP) regulation. Managing hypertension in patients with OH presents a significant clinical challenge, particularly in frail older adults who are also prone to falls. Hypertension treatment is often suboptimal in this population due to concerns over the potential increased risk of falls associated with treatment.

Tourette syndrome and other tic disorders are prevalent neurodevelopmental disorders typically treated with behavioral techniques or pharmacological interventions, primarily antipsychotics. However, many patients do not achieve sufficient response to conventional treatments, underscoring the need for further research in this area. To provide a comprehensive overview of ongoing research activities, we systematically searched the clinical registries of the World Health Organization (WHO) and of the United States National Institutes of Health (NIH) for currently planned or ongoing registered clinical studies.

The 2024 Annual Joint Meeting (AJM) and Young Investigators' Forum of the Canadian Society for Clinical Investigation (CSCI) and Clinician Investigator Trainee Association of Canada (CITAC) was held on April 11, 2024, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Hosted in collaboration with the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the International Congress on Academic Medicine (ICAM), this meeting marked a significant opportunity for clinician investigator trainees to present their research and connect with national and international peers. The event included 70 trainees, consisting of 58 MD+ (MD/PhD, MD and PhD, MD-MSc, MD and MSc) and 12 Clinician Investigator Program and/or Surgeon-Scientist Training Program trainees.
