Spin excitations in an ordered Heisenberg magnet are magnons-bosons with spin 1. That may change when frustration and quantum fluctuations suppress the order and restore the spin-rotation symmetry. We show that spin excitations in the S=1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnet on a kagome lattice are spinons-fermions with spin 1/2. In the ground state the system can be described as a collection of small, heavy pairs of spinons with spin 0. A magnetic excitation of lowest energy amounts to breaking up a pair into two spinons at a cost of 0.06 J.

The assessment of electronic structure descriptions utilized in the simulation of the ultrafast excited-state dynamics of Fe(II) complexes is presented. Herein, we evaluate the performance of the RPBE, OPBE, BLYP, B3LYP, B3LYP*, PBE0, TPSSh, CAM-B3LYP, and LC-BLYP (time-dependent) density functional theory (DFT/TD-DFT) methods in full-dimensional trajectory surface hopping (TSH) simulations carried out on linear vibronic coupling (LVC) potentials. We exploit the existence of time-resolved X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) data for the [Fe(bmip)] and [Fe(terpy)] prototypes for dynamics between metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (MLCT) and metal-centered (MC) states, which serve as a reference to benchmark the calculations (bmip = 2,6-bis(3-methyl-imidazole-1-ylidine)-pyridine, terpy = 2,2':6',2″-terpyridine).

With the rapid development of thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials, achieving efficient reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) to mitigate triplet-triplet annihilation has emerged as a prominent research focus. This study investigates five derivative molecules, featuring varied bridging atoms/groups (O, S, Se, -CH-), designed from the reported TADF molecule with through-space charge transfer (TSCT) properties. Utilizing time-dependent density functional theory coupled with a PCM solution model, their excited state behaviors were simulated in a toluene environment.

A fundamental manifestation of the nontrivial correlations of an incompressible fractional quantum Hall (FQH) state is that an electron added to it disintegrates into more elementary particles, namely fractionally-charged composite fermions (CFs). We show here that the Girvin-MacDonald-Platzman (GMP) density-wave excitation of the ν=n/(2pn±1) FQH states also splits into more elementary single CF excitons. In particular, the GMP graviton, which refers to the recently observed spin-2 neutral excitation in the vanishing wave vector limit [Liang et al.

We propose a mechanism to obtain chiral phononlike excitations from the bond-dependent magnetoelastic couplings in the absence of out-of-plane magnetization and magnetic fields. By mapping the hybrid excitation to its phononic analog, we reveal the impact of the lattice symmetry on the origin of the chirality. In the example of a triangular lattice ferromagnet, we recognize that the system is equivalent to the class D of topological phonons, and show the tunable chirality and topology by an in-plane magnetic field.

Two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy (2DES) has high spectral resolution and is a useful tool for studying atomic dynamics. In this paper, we show a smallest unit of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) for 2DES, i.e.
